We are running pure non-root install on RedHat7 with eDir 9.2.6 perfectly for a year. It is a tarball install and a non-root config.
When we tried the same thing with RedHat 8 after running ndsconfg it would not start ndsd.
Unable to start ndsd as a non root user using systemctl
Non-root has always seem to be hit or miss to us at least. but we simply had no issues with our redhat7 config.
I even tried a root install of the binaries using "nds-install" and then a non-root config, same error.
We really want non-root installs, either method, becuase we want the users to be able to read ndstrace logs. Awhile back we had root installs and sudo everything, but we could not get facls to work properly so that ndstrace logs could be read, they were always written as root and we couldnt get a facl to work.
I fear a root install even with a non-root config would give the same issue.
Regardless, what are missing on our installs suddently that systemctl is complaing
thank you very much.
