So you're using OES DNS services? If so, there is a "control lists" tab in the properties of the DNS server object in the management console. There you'll find an "allow recursion" section.

Yes, we are using the OES DNS services.  I'm not seeing a section called "allow recursion" in the controls list tab.  I'll upload a screen capture

Also, to make sure we are on the same page, my users also use this DNS server as their primary DNS.

I've installed the new version with the link provided.  The option still is not listed.  Do you know what could cause this?

Also, do you know if I disable recursive DNS, will my users still be able to use it?  I've read that I need to add my clients IP addresses to an exception list.

Are you 110% sure that you're NOT at zone level? We're talking 'bout server level options, so you'd have to click on an DNS server object in the lower left corner of the GUI first.

That was the solution.  I wasn't on a specific server (I didn't know these settings were server level).

So that I am clear on what I need to do:

1)  I need to add my client and server IPs in to the "Control List, Allow Recursion" list.

2) Change the Advanced tab, recursion option to NO.

Is that correct?

AFAIK the "allow recursion" control list is only honored if the advanced "recursion" option is set to "yes". As soon as the advanced option is set to "no" recursion requests will be generally answered with referrals. So i'd guess (can't verify currently) that, in order to accomplish what you likely want to), you'd have to leave the advanced option at the default "yes" and populate the access control list with what you want to allow recursion requests.
