If you implement UP then your users will be able to login still with
their NDS passwords in a few cases.

First, to help with migration they can login via an NMAS-enabled client
(Novell Client, for example, with the NMAS pieces installed as they have
been by default for a decade or so) which is then clever enough to login
via NDS and, if successful, set the UP for the user so from then on they
use UP whenever they have an NMAS-enabled client on their side.

Second, anytime they have a client that ONLY supports NDS logins, those
will continue to work. Whenever the user sets their UP their NDS
password will, by default, be updated as well so that older clients
continue to work. The exception to this is if you explicitly changed
the default UP policy to 'Remove NDS Password' or something, in which
case setting UP will prevent NDS Passwords from ever being used for this
user until you change that in the future.
