core services unable to connect to the database

I try to login to the scm console but it shows the error "core services: unable to connect to the database" any idea why it happens?

    Hi,

    I hope you must have done basic SQL service run verification and login into management studio, if not please follow the below steps.

    1) Make sure the SQL instance and SQL services which SCM has been using is up and running .

    2) Try logging into SQL management studio with SQL instance to make sure the basic SQL connection is working.

    If the above two points appear working in your setup, then please share the core log which would be present under C:\Program Files (x86)\NetIQ\Secure Configuration Manager\Core Services\log  (Default install path where SCM places the logs).
