F5 Server Session Issues

I am running:
SSPR v4.1.0.6 b412 r39267
Tomcat: 8.0.43.0
Java: 1.8.0_151-b12

When I connect directly to the server where the app is, the app works perfectly. When I connect through an F5 server (which is only forwarding traffic to the 1 SSPR server) I have issues with page loads such as: not loading css themes, partial page renders, and session issues where my session is continually forgotten resulting in a suite of errors throughout every step of the app.

I get this error sometimes when trying to log in:
RequestError:
Unable to load login processAction=restLogin
  • If you are not using TLS/SSL yet, have you tried seeing how the requests
differ on the wire before/afer the load balancer, or how they differ on
client or server side vs. when not using the load balancer?

If it all works nicely without the load balancer, and then you introduce
that piece and things break, it would seem likely that it is interfering
somehow. Maybe turning on sticky sessions would help it NOT do whatever
it is doing, even with the one system. Could it be doing any caching for
you, and maybe getting too much in there? That seems far-fetched, but so
does a proper load balancer breaking a single-node app.

    Good luck.

  • Turns out there was a bad monitor on the F5 server called "in band" that was causing unpredictable TCP resets. Thanks for the reply :).
  • "In band" but out of order, eh? I loathe bad hardware, or bad software on
hardware, or whatever that was. Thank-you for sharing your results; they
may help others in the future.
