Announcing Voltage SecureData for Hadoop Developer Templates Version 4.0 Release

The Micro Focus Voltage Big Data Team announces the release of Voltage Hadoop Developer Templates 4.0. This release adds support for Kerberos Authentication as well as additional functionality highlighted below.

Overall release highlights include the following:

Support for Kerberos Authentication:
Allows users in Kerberized Hadoop clusters to leverage their existing Kerberos tickets to authenticate with the Appliance without having to explicitly configure any sensitive credentials in the configuration file.

Versioned JAR File with Embedded Dependencies:
The main Hadoop Developer Templates JAR file has been changed to deliver a versioned filename file with a symbolic link that is unversioned. This JAR file now contains its main dependent classes within it, making it what is known as an uber JAR file. This approach makes it easier to keep track of JAR files across different releases, such as in upgrade situations, and streamlines the commands for launching Hadoop jobs.

Configurable Product Name and Version:
The product name and version can now be specified in the configuration file to be used as the client/product identifier in Simple API key requests and as the user-agent header field in cryptographic requests to the REST API. This information is logged by the Appliance and can be useful for tracking, debugging, and reporting.

PySpark Integration:
The Spark Developer Template now also demonstrates how to integrate the Voltage SecureData cryptographic APIs with PySpark.

Apache Support Enhancements:

  • The Hive Developer Template now also demonstrates how the Hive UDFs can be called using Apache Impala.
  • The Sqoop Developer Template now uses new dynamic build directives to account for the use of the org.apache.sqoop package and its classes in newer versions of Apache Sqoop 1.x.

Updated Open-Source Libraries:
Several of the included open-source components have been updated in this release to the most recent versions. The most significant of these updates is to the Apache HttpClient library used for REST API calls.
