Continue on device error

Hey

Hopefully one of you has a good idea for my problem.

Is there any option for simple config- / diagnostic-scripts in NA to continue on device errors? For example:

I have to adapt an ACL which exists on some devices but not on others. To keep the configs as homogeneous as possible, my approach was; Rollout a change-plan that deletes and recreates the ACL from scratch but this will fail since the deletion of the ACL ("no ip access-list ACL") will fail with an error on devices that don't have the ACL yet.

Same thing for a diagnostics job - For an upcoming change we wanted to create a Diagnostics to check pre/post change. This diagnostic included some specific commands that will lead to an "unknown command" error on devices that don't have a specific feature active (e.g: PIM or BGP on Nexus).

Is there such an option anywhere in NA? Or is it possible to overwrite the standard_error pattern? I'm aware I could do this with multiple diagnostics / change-plans or with advanced scripts, but from an operational point of view it would be a lot easier to handle with just one task.

We are changing the IP in the NNM Management Server and NNM iSPI Performance for Quality Assurance Server. Both machines change the IP but do not change the hostname.
AD based L2 Operators unable to schedule report jobs in NPS

I've been trying to set up our Level 2 Operators with the ability to schedule their own reports in NPS 2018.05. Only administrators and L2 Operators with local accounts in NNMi can schedule reports at the moment. I've adjusted the capabilities in NPS so that all L2 users should be able to schedule reports but nothing has worked for our active directory based users. I created a local test account in NNMi and made it a L2 Operator and it does have the ability to schedule reports NPS. We've tested this in our dev, cert, and prod environments and they all act the same.

Originally the L2 Operators were also not able to run reports from BI Server > Public/My Folders but that has been fixed by updating the capabilities.

I do have a case open with MF Support but I wanted to see if anyone here has run in to this.

Ping (from server) does not fetch nodename

Hi,

After upgrading from NNMi 10.10 to 2019.05 on Windows in our production env., it is not possible to ping a monitored node interactively from the console anymore. If we right click on a node and select Node Access -> Ping (from server), we do get a new little window, but no ping attempts are made. Instead the text in the windows states "Ping from <NNMi-servername here> to localhost". It i.e. (claims to) ping itself (although it does not even do that). In the same little window it even states "Specify Node" and "Please enter a node name and press "Ping"".

If I enter a nodename in that field and press the Ping button, it just clears the field again without pinging anything.

If I instead right-click the node and select Configuration Details -> Communication Settings, all the comm. settings for the node in question are shown. So in this case NNMi is indeed able to fetch the actual nodename from the node symbol/icon. If I instead, however, choose Configuration Details -> Monitoring Settings, I get the error message "Error: No object found. One of the following parameters must be specified to identify the object: objid, objuuid, objcustattr, objattrs".

Any ideas? How should I troubleshoot? I don't see anything in the logs...

BR,
Frank Mortensen
Managon AB

Hello! Dear Network Automation professionals, I need your advice..

I need to integrate HPE Network Automation 10.30 with SIEM and I'm choosing a way, how to do it.

I see 2 possible ways and try to choose the best one:

Logging by "Send Syslog Message" rule via Admin -> Event Notification & Response Rules

Getting audit_log.txt directly from OS and next - parsing of it by SIEM connector.

Do both ways have the same log level?

Do they log the same event types?

Which way is most full by events completeness?

Which way is usually mostly preferred?

I did not found these answers at documentation...

NNMi HA cluster %2C SNMP request to devices is going from active server but not common virtual IP

I have already configured NNMi on HA cluster and it is working fine.

We are using below two servers and four IP’s, The application is running on http://pntest34i.abcd.corp/nnm (11.100.**.49 which is virtual IP).

pnnmtest01i.vodacom.corp
11.100.**.129 - Physical IP
11.100.**.45 – Virtual IP

pnnmtest02i.vodacom.corp
11.100.**.130 - Physical IP
11.100.**.46 – Virtual IP

The snmp request is getting sent to end nodes from virtual IP (11.100.**.45/11.100.**.46) instead of 11.100.**.49 as this IP is getting assigned on active node in HA cluster.

So can someone confirm,

1. with Which IP address NNMi should send SNMP request to the devices??

2. or when NNMi is active on one of the server, then request is sent from virtual IP of that server as per product design???

for example: if NNMi is active on 11.100.*.45 server then SNMP request should go from 45 and if active server is 46 then request should go from 46??

3. also, irrespective of any server being active, can we make NNMi to send SNMP request to devices from only one virtual IP i.e. 11.100.**.49

NNMi 2019.05 P2 - Bug in nnmbackup.ovpl

Hi,

I hope that someone from MF Support reads this and file it internally as a bug.

I have recently discovered in my customer's recently upgraded NNMi 2019.05 Patch 2 env. on Windows that the nnmbackup.ovpl does not work, at least not with an offline backup (I assume that it works for online backups).

The backup fails at a stage when trying to move the Postgres DB-files to a new directory. From what I have seen the relevant part of the code in nnmbackup.ovpl was rewritten in Patch 2, and this seems to have introduced the bug. The change I am talking about is a subroutine that used be to called 'moveSpecialFiles' that has now been renamed to 'processFiles'. One of the differences is that the latter takes one less parameter than the former. The subroutine is called several times for different types of backup files, and when called to move the Postgres-files it still passes that extra parameter to the subroutine (MF has updated all other calls to the subroutine, it seems, but not the call related to the DB-files). I therefore removed this extra parameter even for the DB-files and now offline backups work as desired.

The line I am talking about originally looks as follows in NNMi 2019.05 P2:

processFiles($SPECIAL_DIR . $DATABASE_DIR, $databaseFile, $srcLength, eval {my $z = nls(432, q"for database restoration"); $z =~ s/(\$[\w_!?]+)/$1/eeg; return $z}, @DATABASE_FILES);

I changed it to:

processFiles($SPECIAL_DIR . $DATABASE_DIR, $srcLength, eval {my $z = nls(432, q"for database restoration"); $z =~ s/(\$[\w_!?]+)/$1/eeg; return $z}, @DATABASE_FILES);

I assume that this info. could be of interest to other people with the same NNMi version who create offline backups.

BR,
Frank Mortensen
Managon AB

Generating NPS report on HSRP status

Hi,

We need to use iSPI Performance for Metrics to generate a report on the availability of HSRP for some redundant routers, but I'm unable to find how to query info about an HSRP redundancy group from NPS.

This data is available in NNMi under Router Redundancy Groups, but there doesn't seem to be any Redundancy Group object (or HSRP, or similar) in the topology selector, nor anywhere else that I can see.

I could, maybe, group the interfaces hosting the HSRP IPs in an interface group, but that'd get me the individual status for those interfaces, not the availability of the HSRP. And also, since the info regarding the HSRP availability is readily available in NNMi, I'd guess there should be some straight forward method to create a report for that info.

Customize mail that is send from report

Hi all

Maybe one of you has already found a good solution for this. For compliance reasons we need to regularly document the compliance state of individual devices. This seems easy - Search for compliance, select the devices and the corresponding policies.

But the problem is the automated storage of this report (I plan to send it to Sharepoint) or to be more precise the customization of the email-report. It would preferably be sent as PDF-Attachment with a defined naming convention, like <Year><Month>_<ReportName>. I would like to use the out-of-the-box feature from NA to send reports by mail but it seems to be lacking this options.

How are you handling reporting tasks like this? Do you export to <NA_Home>/addins and then run a cron to have the flexibility?

Regards

Hello,

Documentation step Deploy/Select the deployment configuration I am unable to select anything but "Ultimate" version and hence BVD container. Not sure this is a problem and I can later change that to "Premium" as I am unable to proceed...

After running offline download images all download fine except itom-nom-config_2019.11.0.38 .I checked directly on DockerHub, and there is only .39 version... If I change the version manually in image-set.json it gets downloaded, but the web admin:3000 utility reports that image .38 is missing

Any idea ?

Hi Team!

I am installing NA 10.20, in a new environment as I will be upgrading till NA 2019.05, once the DB is moved to the correct place.

When I am installing NA, the installer reviewed the DB privileges and it shows that there are some privileges that are missing. One is the "EXECUTE on CTXSYS.ctx_ddl". Customer mentioned that they applied this in capital letters, but the installer still sees as it is not properly set. We are in a discussion with the customer mentioning that we do need this parameter to be as it is in the manuals, and they assure that the configuration is set.

The installer gives the possibility to skip this check but I am not sure if it is a good idea to proceed.

Any suggestion on this case? it is the first time this happened to me installing NA.

Kind regards,

Ivonne

I can not move further after Point 3. on page 4 path mentioned is different from screenshot.

as i can not find path mentioned in screenhot, i assume path mentioned in text "%nnminstalldir%NNM/Server/deploy" is correct path so i copied file there. it also talk about ovjboss restart but not clearly so i have rebooted whold Server still when i check ovjboss.log file i see no entries as mentioned in the doc and when checking the jmx console there is no mbean called "inventoryclient".

any Suggestion? also i wonder is there updated Version of this document? is it possible to Import some built in jar package in Project and start using it.

-KAKA-

Hi,

I need to monitor a pair of coolers which are alternating. So anytime, one of the coolers is switched off.

My problem now is, that i get an incident everytime the coolers are switching because then one of them shuts down. I'm looking for a possibility to create only an incident if both of the coolers are not running.

Has anyone an idea?

BR Florian

I have NNMi 10.00 for monitoring network devices.

Currently we do add/modify/delete network devices by logging via NNMi console.

We are trying to automate using API. We found that NNMi supports API . Would like to understand the below.

1 - Using API is it possible to add/modify/delete network devices

2 - If possible does it requires any additional licenses like Developer tool kit

3 - If possible what kind of scripting or programming is required to achieve this ?

4 - If any example or sample is available please share the same.

How to check node in NNMi using SOAP API

Hi Every one,

Recently I got a chance to work on a requirement where whenever an alert is generated in NNMi, we have to check whether the affected node is monitored in NNMi or and then take action accordingly. So I have created a PowerShell script to connect to NNMi SOAP and check the node availability. Below I have provided the script which I have used to complete my requirement. I thought it might be useful for someone as well.

Regards,

Naresh

Hello all, I'm having problems installing NNMi 2018.11 / NNMi 2019.05 on a Windows Server 2016, it shows an error at the end of the installation process.

If I choose rollback nothing happens. I also retried a lot of times performing some changes about permissions, cleaning registry and so on... but nothing worked.

I'm executing the installation wizard as administrator, deactivated firewall, UAC reduced to the less, anti-virus down, increasing virtual memory, giving special permission in folders but none of them worked.

Here are some errors we´re getting:

2019-10-23 16:42:13,651 INFO - The script C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\2\Windows\resource\jre\bin\java.exe -SWING has returned a value of 1

2019-10-23 16:37:23,109 ERROR - There was a failure with this installation action for Network Node Manager i 10.80.191. NNMi Postinstall Configuration has returned a non-zero error code. Network Node Manager i will not be installed.

Anyone facing the same problem? Any advice or comment is really appreciated.

Best regards.

Oscar Moreno.

Does updating nnmaction.properties will resolve nnmaction process

Hi All,

I have an issue where NNMi action stops triggering bat scripts after some time. I don't see any issue on the script since after NNMi action service is restarted all works fine for some time. I could not find any pattern which is breaking this function. Is there a way to update fields inside nnmaction.properties to resolve the issue.

I got 2 options either I can increase the number of parallel execution from default 10 to a higher value or increase the JVM max memory from 30m to a higher value. Please suggest, this is impacting our requirement to forward alerts to 3rd party application.

Regards,

Naresh

Hi Team!

I am trying to "update" my old script for config_export.pl; that was using the Truecontrol Perl API to use the actual Opsware::NAS::Client API. My API version is:

[root@na-app-01 NAS]# perl -MOpsware::NAS::Client -e 'print $Opsware::NAS::Client::VERSION ."\n";'
0.6.8
[root@na-app-01 NAS]#

In the old script for exporting the device config in a txt, there is a function called true_exe that is not being found. Can you guide me on which function I have to call from the config_export.pl scripts?

I already solved the true_session () /true_end() function, but I am not finding a solution for the true_exe function.

Any idea will be welcome!

Kind regards,

Ivonne

What are the steps that we have to follow in order to change the IP Addresses and have NNMi with its iSPI running with the minimum downtime.

2. When we change the IP Address of NNMi server, do we have to renew the license also or there is no connection between the IP Address of the server and the license?

Thank you in advance,

Costas

Customer is trying to upgrade from 10.21 to 2019.05. The upgrade fails at the preinstall check because the 'packages' command exited with a 129 error code. The upgrade fails. This happens no matter what version we try to upgrade to from 10.21. The OS is RedHat 6.1 and there is plenty of disk space available in the base directory which we have configured to /opt/tmp.

Running the installer in DEBUG mode shows a number of messages indicating that the 48 packages will be installed by the RedHat Package Manager. The state of all the packages in the DEBUG output show that all the packages are in a 'pending state' when the packages command finishes its run the 48 packages have not been installed and the command exits with a 129 back to the main script running the upgrade.

Has anyone else ever run into this issue?

Hi,

we created some custom diagnostics to collect special data. This data should be exported via E-Mail and saved on the NA. From the GUI the data looks fine is complete. In the CSV-File send via E-Mail and stored an the NA_Server, there are only 500 lines of data. The last line is "...", so it seems, that the file is limited to 500 lines of data. Is there a way to increase this limit or to eliminate it totally ?

Best regards,

Tobias

Hi All,

I have written a script to forward alerts from NNMi using Powershell and I have added the script under Action tab for both SNMP Trap configurations and Management Event configuration. Here powershell script is called by a BAT file from Action tab. Here the issue is when I tried to parse data there are few alerts which has special characters like ', " so for alerts having those characters are not triggered by the script since the parsing failed via Bat, If I can parse the data directly using powershell then it can be resolved.

My question is, is there a way I can call the powershell directly under Action tab or it cannot be done using this. Is there any other way I can forward the alerts in NNMi to 3rd pary application using powershell.

Regards,

Naresh

Dear

We had created Layer 3 view of segment of our network and NNM shows layer 3 connectivity.

For some devices IP address is mapped with corresponding interface.

For some devices IP address is not mapped with corresponding interface.

Layer 3 monitoring is done by monitoring the IP address for ICMP ping.

I had enabled thresholds for the interfaces which is shown in Layer 3 map.

However when threshold breaches I am seeing the IP address status still remains normal.

Is there any way to show them as critical.

I also beleive it is generic trap requiring the enterprise OID.

The trap that I am trying to block appears in the trap.csv file as such:

Wed Aug 21 11:34:39 GMT 2019,SNMPAuthenticationFailure,x.x.x.x,,,"Authentication failure
(An authenticationFailure trap signifies that the SNMPv2 entity; acting in an agent role;
has received a protocol message that is not properly authenticated.)",Registered,Major,
None,,,Fault,Node,Symptom,SNMP Trap,,,Wed Aug 21 11:34:39 GMT 2019,Wed Aug 21 11:34:39
GMT 2019,.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.412.1.1.1.0[INTEGER]=1|.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.412.1.1.2.0
[OCTET STRING]=x.x.x.x|.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0[TimeTicks]=1111407340|.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.4.1.0
[OBJECT IDENTIFIER]=.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5|.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.4.3.0
[OBJECT IDENTIFIER]=.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5,.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5

I have tried modifying trapFilter.conf with every variation I could think of including:

<*, .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.12.3.1.3.612>
<*, .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5>
<*, .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.*>
<*, .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5>
<*, .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.4.3.0>
<*, .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5.1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.5>

I have setloglevel to FINEST for trapd and events and it seems to check filtering
without finding a block and forwarding on the trap.

Running "DumpBlockList" shows the entries from trapFilter in top section but nothing shows up under
blocking Cache.

I have recreated the trapFilter.conf file to rule out corruption. (no success)

I know I could just disable the trap but I would like to filter it for specific devices if
I can get it working.

A good way to monitor Viptella internet circuits

We are also still having issue finding a good way to monitor internet circuits going down on viptela Edge Routers.

The loss of BFD sessions, indicate that the internet circuit went down.

Devices send a “viptelaBfdBfdStateChange” trap when BFD sessions go up/down BUT we see these traps a lot and sometimes only as result of an occasional brief loss of BFD hello’s. i.e. not truly down down.

When a “viptelaBfdBfdStateChange” trap is received can NNMi poll the device for related BFD Session down state? If state is still “down” after say 15 minutes then trigger a Major Alert

Appreciate any help on a way to monitor Viptela infrastructure. - John
