I created a role in UCMDB which only shows our custom reports. However, the user doesn't see the CMS Home Page which shows overall view of what is in UCMDB. The individual reports are under OOTB_Reports_UCMDB_Home. While I can give users view rights to that group it did not show the CMS Home Page when you start the browser.

What resource type and view do I need to give users to get the initial splash screen after logging into the UCMDB browser?

Assign UD Inventory license to an existing CI in 10.33

Hello Exports,

When does UCMDB assign license to the CI?

Is it happening one time at first time discovery (creation) or it is changing with the assigned jobs?

If I use one of the jobs require UD Full to discover the CI first time, will I be able to change the job to a one that needs only UDI and then UD Full will not count anymore or I need to delete the CI and rediscover again?

I have number of Desktops assigned UD full and I need to move them to take UD Inventory; can we do that or need to delete these CI's and rediscover from the beginning.

Most probably it's supported to some extent. I don't think it's supported for the UD Agent though.

Installed software is discovered from repository like windows installation service, linux rpm , apt

Running software is discovered from process name and listening port.

You nailed it! I was targeting the wrong server all along!

But it's not my fault! I wanted to explore the REST API possibilities, so of course i started with online MF documentation. So i go to the Develop->API Reference (https://docs.microfocus.com/itom/Universal_CMDB:2019.02/API_Ref)

From there it takes me to CMS REST API Reference (https://docs.microfocus.com/UCMDB/2019.02/ucmdb-docs/docs/eng/APIs/UCMDB_RestAPI/index.html).

There is a line saying:

"Note: To view the interactive REST API Reference documentation and to try executing the sample code for each REST API call, access CMS UI, and go to Help > REST API Reference."

Not once there is no mention that the target for REST calls should be the UCMDB server!

So i followed that NOTE and ended up experimenting the REST API calls on UCMDB BROWSER server!

Never, on any line in the docs i haven't seen that i should actually point my requests to UCMDB server!!!

Thank you so much for spotting this, i have altered my Postman calls and now they work fine!

So the solution to my problem is to send REST API calls to:

https://ucmdb_server:8443/rest-api/

Jetty is the webserver for the UCMDB server and DFP. Tomcat is the webserver for CUMDB Broweser+CMS UI or in the past it was also for CM.

I would be interested on how we can integrate the custom SAI files that are created by the customers with SSA.

The sum of our customers will always be greater than whatever lab we can build up.

InstalledSW will alwyas have more details than RunningSW. You can have a portable app which will never be an InstalledSW.

SSA can easily become a big resource consumer so it's recommended to deploy it on a standalone machine.

(I have faked my Hostname and Password for this post)

Instead of expected response (the token), as i'm getting when testing with Swagger on Browser server:

...in postman, i'm getting the "login" page, status is still 200, but i'm not getting a token:

So it looks like the API call is successful but can't get past the login screen (which should not be there of course)... So the response is not what we expect (the Token). Any other API call produces the same "successful" response with identical "login" content...

I see the difference in your code: you have the "Authentication: Basic ....".

Can you explain how you set this up (is that the Authentic: Basic type in the Request definition? and what username and password did you supply? The same one used later in the Request body?)

i have exactly the same problem. From both Postman and SoapUI, i can't get arround that login response. Using the built-in Swagger server from within CMS UI works fine, but when you want to use the API from outside, it can't pass that login screen, with or without token, even tried using user/pass type of authentication in my POST calls, tried everything i could think of. But then again, i'm a REST API newbie...

We create an enrichment rule and when we activate, it indicates an error at the point of integration. For what the enrichment rule works, we have to have the integration point disabled.

Server processing failure-uCMDB error

Hello Experts

Whenever i'm trying to run an "Host Application by shell" or "Host Resources by Shell" CI are not triggering it saying "Server Processing failure" even my tql has defined properly and even i found shell job got properly discovered and also in IP Address properties "IP Probe Name" also got updated but still i'm getting error saying.

Any idea what is the issue ?

The reports are enabled OOTB. No conflicts found in reports
And I've had no customizations in either environment. Only scheduled UD jobs

I have the following cases in upgrade report, if you are interested in full report I've attached it, along with other reports (undeployReports were generated by CP upgrade):

Hello Mihai,

The CM packages are expected. It's even stated in the release notes. The protocol XMLs may be due to customizations although there a lot of them listed.

Did you enable the report creation like in https://docs.microfocus.com/itom/Universal_CMDB:2019.05/PMCMUse ?

Has anybody experienced errors and/or warnings when updating CP 2019.08 over CMDB and CP 2019.05? Support matrix for CP 2019.08 states full compatibility with UCMDB 2019.05 (has CP 2019.05 OOTB)

Or any problems encountered after update?

Shoud I be worried for errors and warnings listed below? They happened exactly the same on 2 similar environments. Is this normal behavior for CP 2019.08?

Summary

Why are the Last Access Time and Last Discovered Time not updated when a job runs for the 2nd time and there are no changes?

Solution

If there are no changes to the CI then these values are not updated until the Touch process runs. The sendTouchToServer job by default only runs once per day.

You can change appilog.agent.probe.sendTouchToServer.interval in DataFlowProbe.properties files, which has a default of 1 day (86400000) and restart the probe if you need the touch time to be updated more regularly. Beware that this will have a performance impact.

The touch mechanism is executed for all CIs at the same time for the probe. The Last Access Time and Last Discovery Time are not identical. The Last Discovery Time is the actual time of the last discovery. The Last Access Time can be can be updated by many different processes such as enrichment, integrations etc... The time here is the time the process updated it.

General Information about the Touch Process:

The very first touch time on a probe when it is installed is by default 0 o'clock UTC.

From then on there are potentially two formulas at play:

(1) If there is no start and end interval only Formula 1 is used:
Formula 1: System.currentTimeMillis() > lastTouchTime + tIntervalForTouchingResult;
e.g. default tIntervalForTouchingResult = 24h

(2) Example below when a start and end time are used and the interval is changed to 12h:

appilog.agent.probe.touchWindowMechanism.startTime = 00:59
appilog.agent.probe.touchWindowMechanism.endTime = 05:59
appilog.agent.probe.sendTouchToServer.interval = 43200000(12h)

Let's say that the lastTouchTime = '2019-06-16 01:30'.

We decide whether the touch should work by the following two Formulas:
Formula1: as above

Formula2:
currentTime(mm:ss) is greater than startTime (e.g. 00:59) and currentTime(mm:ss) is less than endTime (e.g. 05:59)

So given the example times above here are 3 scenarios.

(a) When the currentTime is '2019-06-16:13:30',Formula1 is true But Formula2 is false so the touch does not run.
(b) When the currentTime is '2019-06-17 00:59', though the lastTouchTime is 2019-06-16 01:30' but the tIntervalForTouchingResult is 12h.So Formula1 is true and Formula2 is also true. So the touch starts on schedule without any time shifted. We set the lastTouchTime to '2019-06-17 00:59'.
(c) When the currentTime is '2019-06-17 12:59' though Formula1 is ture, But Formula2 is false so the touch will not run.

Note: The times in the DataFlowProbe.properties are UTC. If the touch fails and is tried again then this can cause the time to move.

You must modify reconciliation rules in AM Generic adapter. Look to am-push-config.xml file in the adapter and you'll find there reconciliation rules for each AM table. For example amComputer ci-type="ITEquipment" has following rules:

If you would use Serial Number as only one unique reconciliation key, you should modify this section like this:

We needed to upgrade from 10.22 to 2019.05. I chose to do a clean install. I hadn't done most of the setup of 10.22 and I wanted to learn the details. The customer didn't want downtime and I could not give a time frame. I was able to create packages of the configuration and most came over. My zones did not, even though the output of the load said it had. I don't know where they went. If you have a lot of zones recreating them would be a pain. We also had several DFPs. I have encountered some issues, but the learning and fixing has been well worth it.

Some warnings. If you use NTLM to connect to remote SQL database you will need a hot fix. The wizard doesn't work otherwise. If you have a CA the passwords you put in during the install/configuration are not used. The configuration has default passwords. I had a problem changing the passwords using the jmx-console. There is a script to make the changes, but the documentation is wrong (don't add spaces between the arguments, like -fxxx and not -f xxx).

From an admin GUI there is no difference. From a browser GUI it looks and runs much better and has more functionality.

I have been asked to migrate UCMDB version 10.33 to the most recent one, I think 2019.05 Based on your experiences or what recommendation does Micro Focus have for this procedure, is this update simple? Or should I consider implementing from scratch? Is there any documentation? Have you used 2019.05? How many improvements does it bring us or what is your recommendation of the best version of these last 10 months? Finally, how long will version 10.33 have support? Thanks for contributions.

We can already see that seperate REST requests are sent to SM for every ucmdbID pushback. We can see TCP/IP connections being opened in hundreds from probe server for those push back requests.

Also on SM side we can see those seperate REST requests, for pushback.

Why uCMDB implemented the import in chunks but push-back with single requests, is beyond my comprehension and massive design failure.

I want to post the work-around we have found. Hopefully it will help others having same issue.

Work-around is to create seperate integration points for each SM population jobs.

Underlying issue is when chunks of different jobs within single integration point keep coming, uCMDB has difficulties mapping those chunks to correct jobs.

Missing CI's in result of integration query

I have problem with OOTB integration UCMDB 11.x and AM 9.70. I would use push job to transfer CI's to AM, however there are missing CI's in result of integration query, that is processed on probe side.

As example I can specify following situation. There are two vmware clusters in UCMDB with same name but configured in different vcenter, co containment in UCMDB is different and separate in UCMDB. I have prepared TQL in UCMDB that should push this two cluster CI's to AM (query is based on ootb AM Cluster Push 2.0).

When I invoked calculateTqlAdHoc method in JMX, result is following:

I've done it but it's not an easy way. I had to rewrite the AM Push scripts and mapping XML files. I still bring in all the software titles in UCMDB to the AM Inventory Model (amInventModel) table to be managed. I can then normalize to a final software model or set to a not managed software model. Then when the software is pushed to the Installed Software (amSoftInstall) table it is either ignored or Insert / Updated based on the final model linked in the Inventory Model table.

Is there a easy way to not even attempt to send unmanaged software titles to AM?

Timeout for VMware VirtualCenter Topology by VIM

We are running UCMDB 2019.05 on Windows. The VMware VCenter Topology by VIM gets triggered, but we get a Timeout warning and the details show that "Job was running more than 1msec". I don't see any timeout options in the adapter. The job had worked earlier in testing, but not now.

Any ideas?

However if I search the document I don't find any references which describe the logical_application class.

You can specify the conditions based on the data you have in 'Query Node Properties' of your query in Pattern based view. But I know, putting 200 conditions is much work. Try to consolidate the conditions and apply them to the query. That's what I can suggest. It's nice if you already found simplified solution! If so, please post back.

I have an issue while trying to authenticate uCMDB through REST api reference that's provided by uCMDB to generate a token and to use that further to make REST calls so that client can get required CI Information. I could not generate token by doing a POST call.

Just log on to uCMDB, Go to Modelling Studio => Create new Pattern based view => Drag and drop the CI Type => Click on Report icon beside View and select the required attributes => Set the hierarchy and generate report.

We have two discoveries.

We run Host Connection by Shell in infrastructure discovery and then run Inventory Discovery by Scanner in our Inventory discovery. That job says it will discover processes and running software. It apparently is not discovering processes and running software. The question is why not.

I think that since the software ID tags are a child of hwOS that you will probably have to change from normalized installed software to raw installed software. This will then create installed software CIs based on the raw data discovered in the registered OS repository. You can access this configuration from the properties of the Inventory Discovery by Scanner job and edit Mapping Configuration.

Regarding software tags, we are pushing to have our application development teams include software tags with their release packages. There are multiple reasons for this and we are hoping to leverage this information within UCMDB.

, the error is generic and it may have different causes.
It would be interesting to see the Communication log with results on a newer CP version. The VMware discovery flow is quite active in the past 6-8 CPs and it's relevant to test with the latest version.
Maybe the job finishes in a timely manner but we have some garbage data there. Maybe reconciliation is talking too long due to various reasons.

Because this is a job which retrieves a lot of data, it's not that difficult to make it unstable. There are options and this can be handled on Support side.

Hello everyone,

I can confirm that this issue happenning also in our environment. (SM 9.62.0016 / uCMDB 10.33CUP4)

I enabled debug on both sides. SM does correcty reply to population REST service request from ucmdb.

In SM REST debug log I can see at least 3 threads same time responding to GET and no errors. Probe reports communication exception same time.

Using Software ID tags to discovery local software

We are attempting to use software ID tags to discover in-house developed applications. I found the following support tip: "UCMDB Tip: Support of Software ID Tags in UD".

The final comment in the tip is: When tags are captured by Scanners during discovery, the data can be leveraged for improved Software Asset management and compliance.
You can create installed package rules that can match the information found in the Software ID tags and recognise software applications.

I can see the tag information in the scan file under “hwOSData/hwOSSoftwareIdTags”.

My question is how do I get from discovering the tag to creating an Installed Software type CI? Is this possible, does anyone have an example?

HA nodes were disabled for a while; when the primary was restarted, the reader/writer come up on the same server with the following error:

Mbean: UCMDB:service=High Availability Services. Method: showCluster

true hostname********* false HOSTNAME******* 4 true

Workaround:

In order to address such issue please run method: RestartCluster from JMX Console

Issue:

Getting discovery fails for certain Data flow probes with error:

"Error processing results of discovery adapter, details error occurred when processing redundant results:

When tried the following steps:

1. Restarted Probe by clearing Probe data also ran discovery by clearingProbeCache

2. Restarted UCMDB server

However, issue persisted showing probe error:

retrieteTaskTouchResults for touchorg.postresql.util.PSQLException:ERROR:relation "ddm_discovery_touch_results_queu" does not exist.

Workaround:

Based on the errors reported, first it is suggested to refer to the CMS 11.0 documentation.

Class Model export with attributes qualifiers

Hello, We are running 2019.02, we had a similar problem with lost connection, we had the same problem when logged in via browser as when logged in via local client, that problem was solved by a hotfix from MicroFocus: QCIM1H125359_112

Hello Mel,
When you say that you disabled discovery of RunningSoftware in your inventory by scanner, i suppose you are running 'Host application by shell' or some other host resource pattern to discovery running software? You need to run something that creates a list of running processes, if not, you have nothing to match the applicationssignature.xml against and no instances of running software will be created.

logical application class

Looking at the CI type manager I find several CI types which say "Obsolete class: replaced by logical_application_class". One example is the Business Service View CIT.

Where do I find information on the logical application class? I don't see it in the CIT manager.

ie. key-truststore.bat -f false -k Admin_1234 -t Admin_1234 and encountered issues please be aware of the following.

The right command to be use is:

key-truststore.bat -ffalse -kAdmin_1234 -tAdmin_1234

"There should be NO WHITESPACE between -f and false -k and Admin_1234, -t and Admin_1234

I believe that I have found the resolution to this issue. The session expiration messages began after I activated SSA, which activates LWSSO. There is an Infrastructure setting named "LWSSO cookie expiration" which is set to 30 minutes by default. I changed this to 360 and I can now work for 6 hours before the session expires.

We were tasked with producing a report of all 'nodes' within a domain. The best report we could create was filtering on the "Windows AD Domain Name" attribute on nodes but this is inaccurate as a node can be undiscovered or aged-out but still have an AD object. Is there any way to discover all nodes as per AD and create/discover the respective node CI?

Solved my own issue...

I suspect the issue is related to the Windows (Roaming?) Profile... If the workstation is disconnected from the network, there's no issue with the database password and UCMDB server starts normally.

Solution: Disconnect your workstation from the network or VPN to start UCMDB Server. Once it's running, you can reconnect your network cable or VPN to access network resources.

I have UCMDB Server (with embedded Postgres) and a Probe running on my workstation for development work. After rebooting my workstation, the Postgres DB credentials no longer work for UCMDB Server service or manual logon via pgAdmin3 even though the UCMDB_Server_DB is gracefully shutdown.

What's the root cause and how can I avoid this issue?

Just to add an addendum to this solution. If you are on an Oracle version that you would not expect this issue to occur e.g. 12.2 then please check you have not got the "compatible" parameter set to a lower value. If you do have this set lower then Oracle may also not allow the JSON updates to occur. You can either use the same hotfix or set the "compatible" parameter to match that of Oracle.

You can check this by using the following SQL:

SELECT name, value FROM v$parameter
WHERE name = 'compatible';

Historically, installed software/SAI signatures are created in DDMI / UDI components, while running software signatures are coming from DDMA/UD Full functionality. In general, the type of data collected is a bit different – the installed software is recognized based on files/package rules, etc. while running software signatures use processes and ports + Jython plug-is (for discovery of more detailed data).

Discovery warning "None Type object has not attribute get value"

uCMDB Asset Manager Integration

We haved integrated Asset Manager with ucmdb and we are push data from Ucmdb to Asset Manager throught AM push Adapter Integration Scenario.

SeAssignment is filed in Asset manager portfolio table .

When we Discovered new Device in UCMDB and push to AM to create a CI then SeAssignmentt value changes in use.

When we changed the se-assignment value manually in AM from in use to in stock then we reimage that asset, Once re-image done host name will change but not serial number and ucmdb will rediscover that asset with new host name and when we re-run the integration job that will push new discovered asset to AM but that doesn't change the serial number but host name will newly create in AM.

Wondering why ... it create new asset in AM ?How to make unique serial number and update Host name to existing serial number ?

also need to understand that if it's OOB feature or need to do the modification to achieve the requirement.
