I went looking for a link to the Micro Focus Customer Center but couldn't find one. To me, this appears to be an obvious oversight.

While it should probably be easily accessible from the main Micro Focus site, I would find it more convenient if it were easily accessible from the community site where I spend most of my time.

How will climate change taxes affect IT businesses?

More and more organisations calling for climate taxes and levies. I was pretty shocked to find oil traders calling for carbon levies on oil fuels, but is this a 'sea change' (terrible pun, I know) or just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic? We need to internalise the environmental cost of our actions instead of pretending they don't exist, but it's going to be a massive economic drain.

I can see the cost of shipping hardware increasing, but I don't see this affecting cloud users too much. Does anyone know of any other impacts carbon taxation may have on IT businesses?

It used to be that anyone could report a software defect, even those unable to open a service request, and these reports were welcomed. There used to be links accessible on the main website where these reports could be submitted. This subject was discussed in this restricted thread: Reporting software defects.

Has Micro Focus changed its policy with respect to reporting software defects?

Are there any plans to once again provide this capability without requiring an SR?

The new header is a big improvement but it still needs some work. While it is much easier and faster to find forums that are product related, links to some forums have just disappeared.

Talk to a Technical Services Manager is one example. I have been unable to locate it following any of the links in the header. I suspect there are also a few other non-product related forums that got lost in the shuffle as well. There is a link to this Community Feedback forum that can be found if someone clicks on Get Started but that is not very intuitive.

Every public discussion forum should be accessible from the Discussions link in the header.

I would like to see a separate section for non product related forums.
The list of items displayed from the Discussions link is essentially a list of products. I would like to see the list expanded to provide additional keywords like names of products whose names have recently changed and those that have been recently discontinued.

Hi Tarik,

Every once on a while I encounter an issue which, while trying to resolve, leads to another then another...

Today I opened an SR for an issue I couldn't resolve. I was provided with the information I needed but the issue wasn't resolved.

At the end of the day I received an email which said:

SR # 101304567021 has been closed. If this status change is incorrect, please contact us by telephone to correct the status.

I find it increasingly difficult to find the information I need on the Micro Focus website... telephone numbers in particular. A link in the email would be very helpful.

I managed to locate a Micro Focus Customer Support phone number (800-858-4000) and called it. The voice prompts have changed from what they used to be but I did press 1 as directed to reach support. A minute after connecting I was dumped into somebody's mailbox with no instructions about what to do.

I called back and repeated the process. This time, a minute after being connected with support, the line disconnected.

I called back a third time about twenty minutes later and actually spoke to someone.

This happened about 5:00 PM Provo time.

I know this is not how you expect customers to be treated. An issue can't be addressed until one becomes aware. I just want to make you aware.

I noticed that I don't have menu items available here in the forum to enter code snippets.

That option is available, though, when I'm replying to some particular messages, but usually I don't have these additional menu items available here:

I seems like this feature hasn't been granted for my account, so I have to format code snippets manually, which becomes rather tedious from time to time.

How can I get full editing features enabled?

PS: I noticed that the code snippet generator in this forum doesn't provide syntax highlighting for the COBOL language. Perhaps someone at Micro Focus with the appropriate knowledge may provide a COBOL syntax highlighting plug-in for the HTML code snippet editor you're using?

Feature Request: Raise the forum's maximum image size

To add value to my issues I often add steps to reproduce.

To do so, I'm using animated screencasts, so readers of my issues may quickly follow and grasp the situation I'm depicting without first being required to set-up a corresponding situation themselves.

Currently, the maximum size of images I can add to my messages is limited to 2 MB. That's forcing me to shrink some of my animations to a size that's hard to read, contradicting the benefits of such animations.

I would be a great help to raise the maximum image size allowed to 5 MB.

To keep server storage tidy, images might be subject to be pruned when a thread's final message becomes older than a year or two.

NetIQ Documentation Site

So, for months, I've had issues with NetIQ documentation site always returning 404 errors for various documentation (i.e. NOT just NAM doc) navigation and top banner frames.

The "Feedback" at the index of documentation doesn't accept my email (bad regex that shouldn't be used in any modern website!!! https://newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/delegated-strings ), then submit results in the overlay returning a general 404 error page, so no guarantee that message sent....

Round and round in circles we go...time to clean up all these sites after the MF takeover....

Validate Email

This old problem has resurfaced and appears to be being repeatable

Log into various protected resources (Community, opensuse forums, opensuse bugzilla, etc) in Firefox
Stop using resources for period of time leaving browser open
Attempting to access Community again at which point it prompts that the session has expired
Click "Sign on again", which doesn't prompt for credentials so it appears IDP session still exists
Redirects to Validate Email
To fix, either restart browser or do the annoying cookie clear

So, it looks like even though the login session is retained, necessary injections of data are not occurring.

I am unable to login to my Micro Focus account.

Hello,

I have created a Micro Focus account and requested the Data Protector free trial. I have received a confirmation email entitled "Welcome to Your Data Protector Trial" which provides me with the link to login into my account. My login attempts are unsuccessful, even though I am using the same email address that I created the account with. This is also the same email address that I received the welcome email. I have attempted to reset the password, but I never receive the password reset email.

I have tried the following steps to solve this problem:

1) Creating a new account.

2) Contacting live chat support.

3) Calling the support phone number.

4) Contacting my Development Rep

5) Completed a ticket to receive a call from a specialist (no response, even though I received confirmation that a specialist will call me soon).

These solutions do not produce any results. The support team, when contacted, direct me to someone else that I have already contacted. If I am unable to login to my account, I cannot get the compressed packages. If I cannot get the compressed packages, I cannot test the software. If I cannot test the software, the enterprise for which I work will not purchase it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Idea Submission Guidelines - clarification needed

The Idea Submission Guidelines & Review Process needs to clarify just what an idea actually is.

It has already been suggested that the Idea Exchange forums be renamed to Enhancement Request to better reflect what they are. I have noticed that some ideas have been created to have program defects correct then the idea is declined because it is not an enhancement.

The document should be revised to encourage readers to first turn to Tech Support to resolve issues and only after they have determine that the product is working as designed that a new idea be created.

We need a solution for ServiceRequestID 101226649691. The SR exists since March.

Some users can't use Filr if another user exists with the same firstname and lastname. Obviously Filr creates workspaces in different ways:

/Arbeitsbereiche/Persönliche Arbeitsbereiche/Firstname Lastname/Start

/Arbeitsbereiche/Persönliche Arbeitsbereiche/Firstname Lastname (username)/Start

Obviously the first type leads to problems, the can't login and get the error below.

I have no idea when filr uses which type of workspace name, but both types exist.

Community / Welcome / Ideas

Currently Ideas links to a list of products which, in turn, link to product idea pages. Under COMMUNITY LINKS on the Welcome page the Ideas link is named Product Idea Exchanges / Requests. If this is what is intended, the Ideas link should be renamed to Product Ideas to make it more descriptive.

On the other hand, if it is meant to be more general in nature and open to ideas on how to improve the community as well, perhaps it should include a link to an Ideas forum since ideas can be tracked and voted upon whereas discussions in this forum cannot!

Search box: Advanced link

Add an "Advanced" link near the search box on the Micro Focus / Community header.

Currently there is no indication that an advanced search capability exists. The advanced search option only appears after entering some search arguments and pressing enter.

If suggestions are not disabled, a short list of results is presented as search criteria is entered. Considering the amount of content searched, the number of possible results is not usually very helpful and the fact that some results have been returned may lead one to conclude it is not necessary to press enter and therefore they will never reach the advanced search screen.

How to get to the Zenworks Configuration Management forum

Just in case others run into this issue. The Zenworks Configuration Management forum doesn't show up in the Community Home, at least not directly. Here's how to get to it.

Community Home > Collaboration > Zenworks Mobile Workspace > Click on the link labeled HERE
In the breadcrumb menu, select Zenworks > Observe you can now see all of the Zenworks forums

Oddly, you cannot get there by going to Community Home > Security, since the Zenworks forum is not listed there. I'm betting this will get resolved in time.

This new forum software, lithium, is garbage. The interface is a pain for browsing subjects and searching. It is also slow. I do not want to have to fight to find useful information.

Since this is the Micro Focus support future, I do not feel this is satisfactory and I am officially starting my Micro Focus decommissioning. It is hard enough finding Micro Focus support with google, but now that the forums are gone, and this nasty Lithium is its replacement, it is time to replace Micro Focus with better supported products.

I have seen similar crappy "community" boards on the worst website in the world, aka HP website.

The forums made it much easier to see the history of products and common problems people have had. With out it, I do not see how to support Micro Focus in my company.

I am paying for support but usually I was able to solve my issues by referencing the forums. Now, I am stuck with the paid support tickets, and I rather move on to non-Mirco Focus solutions where marketing and customer support with will be superior.

I've reached the end of my patience with this SR. So, here I am.

I identified and reproduced a memory leak in eDirectory back in Feb 2019. I opened this SR once I was reasonably sure that I could reproduce it. Unfortunately, my client is running eDir 8.8.8.11, and naturally Support didn't want to deal with that. I was told that unless I could reproduce it with eDir 9, that it was a dead end because eDir 8 was out of support. Fair enough.

So I reproduced it with eDir 9. By then, a patch had been released, and of course, we can't possibly look at the results from eDir 9.12, Support can only look at it if it's eDir 9.13.

So I reproduced it again with eDir 9.13. That was six weeks ago. I've been sending James email, repeatedly, since then, and heard nothing until yesterday. Guess what?

Right. There's now an eDir 9.14, and backline / engineering / etc. can't possibly be interested in seeing any problems in 9.13, they want to know if I can reproduce it in 9.14 before they'll look at it.

This is (expletive deleted).

Each time I have to reproduce this takes a week. Then I have to hound Support for a month. By then, there's a new release, and around we go again. I informed James on the 9.13 test that this was it, that I would not be repeating this "try the new version we just released and let us know if that doesn't help" thing again.

I need, today, somebody from backline involved. I need them to look at what I've reproduced. I do NOT need to be asked stupid questions like if I'm running IDM and whether or not I've checked the DIB cache settings. If backline sets up the same test, exactly as described, complete with all of the various supportconfigs that I've submitted and the exact instructions on how to reproduce the problem, and can't reproduce it, THEN, and only then, can we start looking for differences in settings or whatever.

This bites...

I so don't trust IoT, and with good cause!

I recently brought the Logitech Harmony Elite universal remote. Not only does the hiddeous .NET app require internet to even load, the Hub component also wants internet.

So, after configuring the Hub, I blocked it on the firewall (one of those very very rare IoT devices that doesn't need constant cloud access to function - unlike smart plugs!! Argh!!).

However, in just 24 hours I get 8,000+ knocks on the door to get out to AWS:

The only smart plug I brought just doesn't even work without cloud access, even after setup and the mobile app being on the same network.

Until IoT has half pie decent security, it's not going to get out...

It appears Lithium's capturing of number of Views is a little off the mark. It doesn't account for return visitors, instead adding another viewer to the count. This occurs even when logged in. All in all, it means the Views count can be doctored up using a simple GET script.

We have an SR open (#101231763911) and the support technician is driving us to insanity. His name is Sukanta. He has asked for files/logs that we have now sent 6 times. Yet he keeps ignoring the ticket for several days and then asking for the same files again! Please can somebody help us with this. Our zenworks servers are currently not fully functional and I am getting a lot of pressure to resolve the issues.

Netware 4.11 vertualization

Hello all,

I'am trying to migrate our netware 4.11 physical server to a vm. Iam almost ready to go live in our production but i noticed that the memory utilization is always 97%., before i encountered high cpu utilization and i was able to resolve it by using 2 processor but this one i dont know what to do I already increased its memory to 3gb but still the same. Is there anybody here also encountered this high memory utilization issue? Hoping someone might help me with this.. Thank you

The "Welcome" category just feels a bit left out on the front page... Yes, you can get to it via the accordian menu, but all the other product sections have tiles...

I think the Welcome can have some good reference in it, especially for first time visitors, and should be given its own tile too.

Seriusly.. What is the point? We have had TLS for SMTP > 10 years so
email between responsible parties is encrypted in transit.

All this adds is an extra level of hassle and no benefit?

All I wanted initially was to get rid of my old un-used account on opensuse build project (or at least edit and anonymize it):

I recovered the password, logged in and tried to find "Close/Delete My Account" button, which cannot be found anywhere. Well, "Edit your account" must be it, right?

So, feedback part: account management story looks very sub-optimal to me, especially in modern privacy/legal environment governed by such things as GDPR.

Specific request:
- purge https://build.opensuse.org/user/show/zellijah account
- purge my microfocus.com account
- close/purge any accounts tied to my email that I might not be aware of stored on the systems of microfocus.com or opensuse.org
- when two steps above are done, I'd like this thread and my forum account gone, as well.

How to insert code text into a post?

In other systems, including vBulletin with which I am familiar, we have the ability to insert <CODE></CODE> tags around text whose formatting we wish to preserve. Typically this is used for displaying results from commands issued in a terminal session and for code snippets.

The RICH TEXT formatting options I have available to me when creating a post do not provide this capability so how is this normally accomplished?

After many years of working with M$ I am now home! I was devastated when my former Agency decommissioned all Novell products several years ago. My life was never the same!

I am now supporting SLES 12 and eDir for a very large company. A bit rusty however it all comes back with ease. Thank you to the KPs in the forums!!

This was a dream come true!

I lost my account after recent migration. account is very important for me because it was the one i have been using for many years. And it was working fine until yesterday when i tried to login here, it asked me for user and i mistakenly put wrong user name and this created a new account and i deleted the new one and now I cant even access community ( its showing some user deleted error instead of asking for which user ). I am not sure why this happened. I want my account back.

Right now, the new user is deleted and i cannot access the community anymore ( its showing error saying user deleted)

Also i have seen that subscription services are stopped ( i dont recieve any more emails from any topics ).

Also i have observed that Single sign on do not work, if we login to Support site, then for community we need to login again, Same for the Itom market place.

Note : I am commenting from my official account and i am talking about my personal community account.

In other cases they are asking a question, I definitely need a link to the post so I can answer.

Finally, when I click on APPROVE nothing seems to happen. Maybe it shows up then but no link to post so I can't tell.

Its been consistent. Tried both F5 and CTRL + F5, which gets me in for that session, but new browser and back to 302 binary...guessing MAG or web accelerator caching has gone haywire somewhere.

Both Windows and Linux, multiple ISPs....

Product page inconsistencies

Using these three product pages as examples:

I note the following:

The "CLICK HERE" text allignment on #2 is different from #1 and #3.
The font in the text box within the blue banner on #3 is larger than that in #1 and #2

When zoom is 100 percent, the content above the "CLICK HERE" text occupies more than half my 1920 x 1200 display when viewed in full screen mode. With the browser information displayed, it's more like two thirds of the screen. Is that not a bit excessive?

I haven't (yet) explored further... 😉

Micro Focus's stance on Ancient UNIX licensing?

I'm sorry for posting something serious in this section, but I found no place that seemed more appropriate.

Micro Focus acquired Attachmate in 2014, which had bought Novell in 2011. In 2010, Novell was found to own the copyright to UNIX during the SCO v. Novell lawsuit. Micro Focus apparently folded Novell into itself around late 2016. Thus, Micro Focus is the current owner of the UNIX copyright.

In 2002, Caldera International (later SCO Group) released “32-bit 32V UNIX” and “16 bit UNIX Versions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7” (none of which were initially released after 1979) under a 4-clause BSD license as open source. Going through the Asset Purchase Agreement on Groklaw, it is highly dubious that Caldera was allowed to license Ancient UNIX in the first place. Does Micro Focus recognize the Caldera License?

The license includes this text: “All advertising materials mentioning features or use of this software must display the following acknowledgment: This product includes software developed or owned by Caldera International, Inc.” Given that Novell was found to own the UNIX copyright, the advertising clause misrepresents the facts of UNIX copyright ownership. Additionally, the advertising clause makes the Ancient UNIX code unfortunately incompatible with the GNU GPL. Does Micro Focus have any intention of relinquishing the advertising clause?

Finally, it has been over a decade and a half since the open source release of those UNIX versions. There are still a number of historically important UNIX operating systems that are currently unobtainable under any kind of license. Does Micro Focus have any intention of making available source code licenses, under whichever terms, for UNIX System III (1982, 37 years ago), PWB/UNIX 2.0 (1981, 38 years ago) and PWB/UNIX 1.0 (1977, 42 years ago)?

UNIX turns 50 years old this year. It would be wonderful if these uncertainties could be clarified.

While it's OK, I seem to have a harder time reading it. Maybe the white, maybe a font change, not sure. I would also say it's just too busy. Perhaps have an option to hide the misc. that is on the right-hand side?

I may be in the minority, but would prefer just a basic table view to the questions and can then drill down.
