Regarding my suggestion, you say:

This is true but in addition one must also know that the support link will eventually lead to a page that contains the actual link.

From Support home you can get to the Customer Center using the Support Portal link. As a result of company mergers etc we have a number of Support Portals, the Customer Center being one of these.

So, this is how to get to the Customer Center links:

Community home page
Support home page
Support Login page

I spend a lot of time traversing the Community web pages and despite actually looking for these links and even searching for them I was unable to locate them hence my suggestion. Never, in my wildest dreams, could I ever imagination, the average Community visitor locating those links!

When I think of the Customer Center (portals) entitlements comes to mind, not support. But even if someone clicks the support link on the Community home page and arrives at the Support home page they would have to notice the light gray text on the gray/pink background for clues as to where the Support Portal button might take them.

Clicking on the Support Portal button actually takes us to the Support Login page but even that is a misnomer. While there is a support login link in the upper right corner,

it doesn't login to anything. All it does is display the existing page again!

So, this is the page I was looking for. It has all the appropriate links even though its title has nothing to do with its actual content. There is even a link to it in the footer on the Micro Focus main site:

If only it had been assigned a more meaningful name... 😞

Is it not up to the original poster to determine which post, if any, is the Accepted Solution? 😉

I went looking for a link to the Micro Focus Customer Center but couldn't find one. To me, this appears to be an obvious oversight.

While it should probably be easily accessible from the main Micro Focus site, I would find it more convenient if it were easily accessible from the community site where I spend most of my time.

I KNOW I CAN GO TO MORE OPTIONS BUT I WANT IT TO BE ONE STEP NOT TWO. I ACTUALLY HAVE A COMPUTER THAT IS WORKING CORRECTLY BUT CAN'T FIND THE SETTING DIFFERENCE.

I heard a news story that said that in the inner cities of New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc that companies pay more for an employee's office space than they do for the salary of the employee. I can imagine most companies wouldn't be heart broken to change that. Does that mean that inner cities will be ghost towns in the near future?

But then as you can see, representatives from the commercial real estate business say they'll be back. Personally, I doubt it. I think the way we work has changed permanently.

I certainly hope so. I've been working from home for years and it's been great

Less wear/tear on the vehicle - less mileage and lower insurance rates
No commute time. More time to spend with the family....or work on projects when needed. No more coming through the door at 9pm to a cold dinner in the fridge

I think companies will benefit by not paying for high rent office space (sorry commercial real estate sector...you're the losers). I think most employees can be more productive, though face to face time is what's being lost. The balance is in the positive side.

I use RSS Notifier on the mac to pull down headlines over RSS. It's quite good with Google RSS Alerts, which picks the forum up. Not ideal but it does work.

I'm fortunate enough to work from home but a lot of my colleagues are really struggling with the nature of supporting Novell remotely. We can VPN in but a lot of our customers don't have jump boxes so support can be difficult without an onsite presence.

Also I had a lot of problems during lockdown with just not having the right space for work. Maybe what we need are to go back to closed offices instead of open plan.

How will climate change taxes affect IT businesses?

More and more organisations calling for climate taxes and levies. I was pretty shocked to find oil traders calling for carbon levies on oil fuels, but is this a 'sea change' (terrible pun, I know) or just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic? We need to internalise the environmental cost of our actions instead of pretending they don't exist, but it's going to be a massive economic drain.

I can see the cost of shipping hardware increasing, but I don't see this affecting cloud users too much. Does anyone know of any other impacts carbon taxation may have on IT businesses?

Indeed, there are links to RSS-Feeds. But they are nearly useless. I tried three different Feed-Reader and two of them does not show a headline/title and one shows a ugly line startet with <![cdata .... as title.

(Feeds from other sources/companys and the feeds from this forum are displayed without problems)

I think that these feeds are a perfect medium to hold your fans informed. (Much better than this uncomforable forum) But they should maintained.

That link returns an HTTP 404 Page Not Found because it contains a trailing comma.

Do you need RSS feeds for specific forums/discussions/etc.? Right now, Khoros has a "Subscribe to RSS feed" option for boards in the top right corner (under options), but it is only supported by certain browsers. Knowing what browser you are using and where you want to subscribe might help!

Reporting software defects

Has Micro Focus changed its policy with respect to reporting software defects?

The new header is a big improvement but it still needs some work. While it is much easier and faster to find forums that are product related, links to some forums have just disappeared.

Talk to a Technical Services Manager is one example. I have been unable to locate it following any of the links in the header. I suspect there are also a few other non-product related forums that got lost in the shuffle as well. There is a link to this Community Feedback forum that can be found if someone clicks on Get Started but that is not very intuitive.

Every public discussion forum should be accessible from the Discussions link in the header.

I would like to see a separate section for non product related forums.
The list of items displayed from the Discussions link is essentially a list of products. I would like to see the list expanded to provide additional keywords like names of products whose names have recently changed and those that have been recently discontinued.

In your Profile Settings you can choose how to display the posts you view:

The default is the Linear format.

Use the drop-down (red dot) to get to the Display settings.

There are additional preferences available from the drop-down that affect the sequence in which the posts are displayed for each of the display options.

Since we can't control the sequence one chooses to view posts, I always quote part of the original post or use to ensure the reader knows to whom my post is directed.

In discussion areas, each post in a discussion has it's own REPLY button. When you click on the reply button to a specific post, the reply is attached to that post in chronological order. For example, if you reply to a post and you are the 3rd person to reply to that specific post, your post will be in the 3rd place under that post.

Take this discussion as an example.

Your reply post to RAMASAMY BHARATHARUN is indented under his reply post so it's easily recognizable as belonging to his post (we have 3 levels of indentation). Also notice that your reply post appears above a reply to the root by dsheaffe even though it was posted after his, because it's under, and attached to the post by RAMASAMY BHARATHARUN

For other types of nodes in our community such as blogs, Tips & Information, etc. reply posts are linear and in chronological order under the root post so a reply or comment will always be appended to the end of the discussion.

Whether or not you're doing something "wrong", I doubt it, but I can't say as you didn't give an example. Does that answer your question?

It seems like my replys to posts within a thread/discussion get appended to the end of the current thread. When this happens then my response appears to be a response to the most recent post in the thread, not the post I was replying to. Am I doing something wrong?

Very sorry to hear about this experience and thank you for bringing it to my attention.

This is definitely not the way to get proper assistance.

I will flag it to the appropriate parties to see what contingency plans could be put in place.

The challenge with changing anything just now is the fact that we will be moving to Stack C soon enough.

With Stack C there will be several improvements in customer service contact.

In the meantime, the page that is definitely critical to be aware of is the following;

All you need to do is select the product, for example OES, then select Contact Support which should take you to the actual numbers;

Having said that, being disconnected several times is an absolute "NO".

I would even suggest to use chat and ask to be called back.

Service Request Issues

Hi Tarik,

Every once on a while I encounter an issue which, while trying to resolve, leads to another then another...

Today I opened an SR for an issue I couldn't resolve. I was provided with the information I needed but the issue wasn't resolved.

At the end of the day I received an email which said:

SR # 101304567021 has been closed. If this status change is incorrect, please contact us by telephone to correct the status.

I find it increasingly difficult to find the information I need on the Micro Focus website... telephone numbers in particular. A link in the email would be very helpful.

I managed to locate a Micro Focus Customer Support phone number (800-858-4000) and called it. The voice prompts have changed from what they used to be but I did press 1 as directed to reach support. A minute after connecting I was dumped into somebody's mailbox with no instructions about what to do.

I called back and repeated the process. This time, a minute after being connected with support, the line disconnected.

I called back a third time about twenty minutes later and actually spoke to someone.

This happened about 5:00 PM Provo time.

I know this is not how you expect customers to be treated. An issue can't be addressed until one becomes aware. I just want to make you aware.

Actually, found the reason for the issue I had: My browser window wasn't large enough. When the forum web page becomes smaller than 1,000 pixels in width, the triple-dot eclipse character and all options contained therein disappears.

Hi. I just switched to your account and have full editing options in this discussion forum so apparently I'm not getting the specifics of your not seeing them. You have to expand the menu using the three dots before it appears. Is there a specific area of the community where you don't have that option?

FYI the Khoros platform uses the TinyMCE editor which isn't native to the platform so we have the options that editor provides.

How can I enable full text editing features in this forum?

Hi,

I noticed that I don't have menu items available here in the forum to enter code snippets.

That option is available, though, when I'm replying to some particular messages, but usually I don't have these additional menu items available here:

I seems like this feature hasn't been granted for my account, so I have to format code snippets manually, which becomes rather tedious from time to time.

How can I get full editing features enabled?

PS: I noticed that the code snippet generator in this forum doesn't provide syntax highlighting for the COBOL language. Perhaps someone at Micro Focus with the appropriate knowledge may provide a COBOL syntax highlighting plug-in for the HTML code snippet editor you're using?

To add value to my issues I often add steps to reproduce.

To do so, I'm using animated screencasts, so readers of my issues may quickly follow and grasp the situation I'm depicting without first being required to set-up a corresponding situation themselves.

Currently, the maximum size of images I can add to my messages is limited to 2 MB. That's forcing me to shrink some of my animations to a size that's hard to read, contradicting the benefits of such animations.

I would be a great help to raise the maximum image size allowed to 5 MB.

To keep server storage tidy, images might be subject to be pruned when a thread's final message becomes older than a year or two.

We conducted a recent survey that explored how organizations track the cost of defects, the breakdown of the cost of a defect, and whether Agile/DevOps approaches help to reduce the cost of a defect when compared to Waterfall software development.

The results of the study backed up two observations: defects (regardless of type) incur a greater cost the closer they are found to production, and the activities involved in a defect’s lifecycle become more costly as the defect moves from detection, through fixing, and out into production. While the advantages of Agile/DevOps is widely understood, we found that the nature and distribution of defects follows a similar pattern, regardless of the methodology. However, we noticed that there is a slight reduction in the abundance of high-impact defects in Agile/DevOps.

Since we focused mostly on cost impact, we didn’t include specifics on the number of defects into the study. The chart below illustrates effect of cost by development stage for an Agile/DevOps approach.

When I speak with customers, I haven't seen a consistent trend in shifting to a permanent Work from Home strategy. However I do see organizations adopting a more flexible approach that gives employees greater latitude in where they work and what hours they keep. The flexibility is also shifting hiring requirements in terms of locations and accommodating a more distributed approach. Here at Micro Focus we have slowly returned to a mix of remote and office based routines (depending on country rules).

The consistent shift is that we are all learning how to adapt to a new normal. What was once a requirement to be "in the office" is now more blurred. We can have collaborative and productive (sometimes more so) conversations regardless of where we are.

I believe most companies will end up with hybrid working models – splitting the week, month or projects with part time at home and part time at work.

This observation is based on our direct experience as well as reporting done by analysts that follow the automation space.

Our "glass ceiling" here refers to the fact that automation rates are having a hard time increasing.

Meaning, if automation is the answer to getting testing done better and faster, than the more things that can be/are already automated the better.

If this is true, then we should see automation rates increasing everywhere yet we are not seeing this.

One of the reasons this "ceiling" effect is happening is because there are always more "things" coming in to challenge testing teams. More devices, more browsers, more application frameworks, SDKs, APIs, etc. The list goes on.

So without any "help" we believe testing teams will continue to be challenged.

We believe AI will shatter this ceiling so to speak. With AI, we will no longer be as dependent on the browser and mobile device specific requirements to automate. We no longer have to understand how iOS deals with objects and elements vs how Android does it (or Chrome, Firefox, IE, Windows, Edge, etc).

This makes testing more resilient to change, easier to manage, and much more simple to implement. With this, we absolutely believe AI is the game changer we need to make automation scale in the face of chaotic constant change.

Defect retention and reduction of 80% to Production is a wonderful thing. Is there any sense or metrics on defect found in non-prod environments through the software stack? What's the breakdown in defects found from development, test and stage, for example? Has there been much of a shift in defects found earlier in the development lifecycle as well?
