How?

1. A browser extension

2. It will add a new quick access panel to Octane page, inside which it offers shortcuts for daily missions

3. Select a user story or defect and then click the shortcut button, it will do the rest in an automated manner.

E.g.

Assign an owner to an item.

I have my team members listed in the quick access panel (Robo, Qubo)
By select an item and click the member's name in the quick access panel
It will do the rest in an automated manner:
1. Click on the owner field of the selected item
2. Type the name to filter the list
3. Select the user and apply

When using ALM Octane and trying to filter entity date fields, the “Before”, “After” and “Between” options on the date filter are limited to a specific date or dates.

So the suggestion is to add the following option to the Date filter:

X Days/Weeks ago or older/newer

For example, if I want to display aging defects then I will filter the Creation time field by:
8 Weeks ago or older

Another example: if I want to display the new defects created in the last week then I will filter the Creation time field by:
1 Weeks ago or newer

Similarly, we will add the following options to the filter too:

X Days/Weeks ahead or older/newer
Between X Days/Weeks ago and X Days/Weeks ahead

In Micro Focus Connect, it would be useful if a user could see a tail of the log for a running connection.
Would also be helpful if the user could control the logging level.

In the Connect user interface:
The user would select a running connection to see the logging details.
A new details tab would be available: "Log".

The user would have some options on the Log tab:
1: Log level: [info, debug, trace].
2: Number of lines to display.
3: Auto load.
4: The log will be in Html format.

The user chooses the logging level desired.
See log4j for descriptions of levels.

2: Number of lines to display.
Allows the user to load only the number of lines desired per load.
Each time the panel is refreshed, only a portion of the end of the log will be displayed.

3: Auto load.
If auto load is specified, the web socket will automactically push the log chages to the browser.

4: The log will be in Html format.
Using the log4j Html formatting capability to display the log in a Html format.
This allows the displayed log to be very easy to read.

Currently if a UFT customer wishes to use AI in his existing tests, he needs to update the script lines.

If a single TO is used in a 100 places, the customer needs to update all 100 script lines.

The suggestion here is to add a new AI Object to the OR and bind the "regular" TO to it, so that every time it is used the AI object will be used instead.

This solution is build from 2 parts:

Design time:
1. add an ability to add AI objects to the OR.
2. add ability to bind existing TO to and AI object
3. [Optional] add some automation to this process using inspect and the TO rectangle to find relevant AI object.
Run time: when ever an operation on a TO is invoked:
1. if its a simple click or type, perform it using AI object
2. else use AI to detect, then find the real TO in the detected area and perform the operation using the TO.

The motivation of the feature is to allow customer adapt existing scripts and ORs to AI rapidly.

Currently we are doing internal "tagging" party for massive image tagging, in order to enrich our AI model:

The whole group meets and manually tag application images for correct label (validating that detected button is indeed a button, adding label for UI objects that were not detected,etc...)

We suggest creating a social mobile game, where users will get small data bites for validation, such as "button" that was tagged as label, you can easily give feedback using "Tinder" like widget; "Correct / Wrong"

So the flow would be:

1. Our model detect a button as a button

2. User A will get this tagged button, and he will swipe for 'right' / 'wrong' tagging.

3. Each swipe operation will reward the user in game point.

4. He can decides to validate another image or to quit.

Then we can display a dashboard in floor monitor with hall of fame of users with most tags, high quality tags,rewards, etc...

However there are scenarios where individual nodes/servers go off-line due to nodes crashing, high CPU or java process running the application has out of memory.

Taking bulks of applications screenshots, and massively manually tag them, in side our development team.

We can expose a demo site with our product along easy registration process.

We can limit the number of steps, screenshots, mobile devices,etc...

What we will get is:

1. Exposure to our product...

2. While users try our product, there maybe a case where some of their application objects are not being detected by our AI detection. In such a case the user will need to "add" these controls to a model.

We can take users "tagging" data (without any personal info) and use it to enlarge our AI model.

Stepping from "AI based object detection" into "AI based screen detection."

We use AI in order to drive easy automation, in terms of detecting an testable object from a given screen image:

1. Detect elements in a given visual snapshot of an application (regardless of application technology)

2. OCR text detection.

If can combine these 2 tools to smartly generate a complete testing scenario:

The flow would be:

User selects the screen to be tested and by using our smart Inspect (AI based) or Spy (Property based)

we can extract the UI elements (such as buttons, text fields,etc...) along with screen OCR [existing functionality in Codeless Product]

Now we can try and to evaluate the "screen" functionality, by analyzing the detected texts ("enter user name" / "enter password") and test objects ("username" text field, "password" text field, "submit" button)

And in case we identify such 'known' screen, such as "Login Page","Registration Page",etc...

we can generate a complete end 2 end testing scenario, including negative tests, regression tests,etc...

Codeless - Contextual NLP command suggestions for easy test generation

Currently, in order to add a test step in Codeless editor, we have 2 approaches:

1. "Advanced user" - User can freely write "NLP" command (e.g click the 'login' button).

Unless user executes the script - we can not be sure that the script actually "works" (syntax might be correct but we can not be know in advanced that indeed the "test object" exists in UI.

2. User uses scans the application UI by "Spy" (Property based detection) or "Inspect" (AI based detection) in order to detect detect test objects.

In this point, user can visually click on the detected test object, and a valid NLP command will be added to the editor.

So it's either

1. A case where the text is "deattached" from any real concert UI, and user cant tell if the steps written are "valid" in term of execution.

2. The steps were created by a sequential generation procedure by clicking "Inspect"/"Spy" and adding a single step each time.

Suggested solution: Hybrid solution, where the engine, in background scans the UI (SPY/AI)

As user tries to write command we have a "contextual" domain with the detected test objects (that might was originated from AI/UFT, mentioned before) - thus the process of writing a valid steps would be much easier and straightforward.

That would make the product much easier to first time users, and the editor much more friendly.

Build mechanism to Prevent Incidents

There are incidents when application is impacted. Either having performance impact or unavailability. Following are the reoccurring cause of incident.

Bad data
High memory utilization
High CPU Utilization
Application stuck/hung
One end user running a report causing application failure
Network failure
DB failure etc

When above re-stores, application do not self-recover and end up being re-started losing customer work in progress, resulting into customer annoyance and lack of trust in product.

We want to ensure that the product should be able to protect itself from above on application server when it crashes.
There should be either preventive mechanism or self-healing mechanism without the need of re-start.

There must be mechanism to define fault tolerance.

We can categorize it as :-

Soft faults that can be considered as application crashes that can be recovered.
Hard faults that would require a complete system restart

In any of the case, whenever any error is recorded in logs, the application should have capability to self-detach from cluster to avoid any impact on users or application availability.

In AWS, we have this partially set where when a node failure occurs then rather than fixing or troubleshooting, we can detach the problematic node and attach it to new ec2. This is exactly what we need but automated and for all architecture including traditional data center.

Designing processes is a usual routine in Deployment Automation. User searches for the process step he needs, adds it to the main area, connects it with other steps and fills the required properties. Since many processes consist of the same steps and have similar structure, creating a process from scratch needs repetitive actions and becomes annoying a bit.

One of the things which could be done in order to speed up the creation of new processes is to add suggestion of most probable steps. It could be done in a very simple way, say by suggesting 3 most frequently used steps. However, it would be much more convenient if these suggested steps depend on the context (steps which are already added to the process). For example, if the user has added "Acquire lock" step, "Release lock" is likely to be added later. What is more, because the suggestion is made for a specific step, the next chosen step may be automatically connected with the previous one.

Many of our support cases involve creating a memory dump of our product for in-house debugging.

The easiest way for our customers is to simply use Task Manager to create a native memory dump of our application.

On our development machines we can then analyze this dump using the matching JDK to extract the Java stack dump and heap dump. Currently, this is a manual process and this idea proposes to create a tool for automating these steps:

Open the native dump and find the version of the JVM that was used
fetch the appropriate JDK for that version
use the JDK tools or VisualVM to extract the stack- and heap-dump

4. It can be projected as a separate tool/application for managing team/products just like we have tools exclusively for managing scrum(Octane, Rhythm etc)

Also the way a user types in the text is very similar to the text which he/she typed in previous time. There is a high change that a user uses a particular type of words or sentences every time. This user behavior can be captured and some text/sentence recommendation can be made to the user.

Solution: Using supervised learning and with the set of training data of the user, we can predict the text, when the user enters text in any of the input. This solution can adapted in any textbox. Some of the examples are:
1. AccuRev’s comment box while keep/promote.
2. Git commit message.
3. Rhythm’s or Octane’s story description.
4. Pulse’s code review description.

Data Sonification: present the status of Continuous Integration builds as polyphonic melody

Problem. There are already solutions for Continuous Integration (CI) tools, which play certain sound when a build succeeded or failed. However they do not allow to have up-to-date acoustic representation of the builds statuses. The problem is that to hear the sound it is necessary to be nearby when the build has finished (which means to be nearby all the time) otherwise one will not be notified.

Scenario: Software engineer worked from home and did not have physical access to CI server or agent, but wanted to monitor builds in the background not requiring his visual attention. When it was suitable for him, he kept CI tool web page opened, which played polyphonic melody in his room. It was OK to mute the sound temporary because once unmuted, the melody gave him up-to-date representation of builds statuses.

Solution. Implement server side tool, which processes several recent results of each build, generates melodies, combine them to polyphonic soundtrack and makes it available for remote users.

Micro Focus Pulse is able to detect 3rd party components used in a build and identify the security vulnerabilities associated with those 3rd party components.

Dimensions CM has an artifact repository which can store, manage and review/approve components.

This idea is to bring these two worlds together so that when a developer or team lead or compliance manager is looking at a package version stored in our artifact repository that they can see the vulnerabilities that Pulse discovered with those packages. This will help the user decide if the package meets their security standards and can be used or should be avoided.

This helps improve the security of the software our customers are building, it certainly adds value to our artifact repository manager and is well aligned with our roadmap for these product features.

Voltage SmartCipher is a cool Micro Focus product that provides encryption and control of file access and usage with policies that can control who can do what to which files.

This Hackathon idea is to integrate SmartCipher with our enterprise SCCM system Dimensions CM.

We can use SmartCipher to ensure the version controlled files are stored encrypted when they are committed.

We can use SmartCipher to only allow the Dimensions CM application to access those files.

We can use SmartCipher to lock down the files in the developers work areas, for example limiting it so when files are cloned/pulled from Dimensions CM that they can only be opened by the devlopers IDE process and cannot be emailed/screenshotted exfiltrated off the developers laptop.

This idea is very relevant to our current situation where many developers are working from home, increasing the risk of security and data breaches. It also brings together Micro Focus products built by different teams in different portfolios and stacks to make a 1+1 greater than 2 🙂

Integrate application with ER system

PPM application should have menu containing all the recorded enhancement requests and defects submitted for particular PPM version. It should contain particulars like description of ER, date submitted and status. This can be kept updated along with each service pack released. This way customer will have visibility to the road-map of product development. Along with this, a link to Idea exchange redirecting to idea exchange page inorder to log the ideas and ER's would be a good to have thing.

They can see if their ER is logged and is prioritized, or if the ER which they intend to record is already submitted or not. They would know what they would be expecting in upcoming service packs and releases.

Working with the customers confirmed for me the necessity of this utility.

As a first step, my idea consists of creating a script that would grab all the Octane logs and archive them on the filesystem on the Octane server.

The script should be executed with a date parameter, archiving all the logs from the specified date to the present date.

Furthermore, we can add this functionality in the UI, maybe in the "Help" area. By clicking on a newly added option in the Help, a pop-up window will be opened with a date picker element and "Collect logs" button. In the UI this option should only be available to the users with the Site Admin role.

UX will design the flow for the application, provide a series of mock images
R&D will develop and deliver
QA will wait for R&D's delivery and then create test scripts

For UFT AI, it only needs the images to identify objects and so to generate steps.

So the flow will be re-designed as following:

QA will step in and create test scripts right after mock images will be ready.
Once R&D will deliver it, QA can seamlessly run the test scripts generated above on top of the real application.

A particular military organization, for security reasons, use offline replication. At regular intervals, they use Air-Gap replication to generate a large compressed file hierarchy that they put on disk and securely physically deliver to remote sites.

The problem can happen in case of losing disk as item library files are not encrypted. In order to prevent such kind of troubles all item library files should be encrypted with security key and AES algorithm similarly to DFS/registry.dat.

• Store files originating from Silk Central source control integrations in a persistent volume.
• Access the persistent volume from multiple pods, thus reuse files for multiple test executions in multiple pods.
• Add support to store source control files on the local Silk Central server and efficiently sync changes between the local storage and the kubernetes persistent volume via rsync. This is accomplished by establishing a tunnel with the same proxy based secure communication model used for the Silk Central Execution Server communication, so there is no public accessible SSH or rsync port opened on the Cloud side.

AUT stands for application under testing, and it is necessary for dev and qa from LR or UFT when testing. This project is to build a system to share and retrieve AUT, so that we might be able to easily deploy the AUT, which have the func we want, with a single click, instead of developing a new one or consulting others.

Here is an example.

Let's assume LR team is now working on a new feature, and need an AUT for that. Then a dev developed one to verify the functionality of this feature. Without this system, we might have the following issues.

What if other team members need this AUT? They will have to get a copy of the executable and learn to deploy it on a new environment.(waste of effort)

What if it's been some monthes(years) since the AUT are developped, so that users forgot how to deploy it or even miss the executable? Try to find and deploy it or develop a new one;

What if team members are changed so that the information of this AUT is missed? Develop a new one.

How to integrate this new AUT into automation test? This AUT will have to be deployed somewhere persistantly. (waste of computing resources)

How to expose it to colleagues other teams like UFT, TC, SRL? Almost no way. Even if we could deploy it on site like Kalimanjaro, users could barely know the update.

However, with this system, it won't have such issues. Users will be able to search for the target AUT in this system, and deploy it with a single button click if the AUT for similar usage is ever developed.

This project would not only help solve the above issues, but also help isolate the environment of same AUTs for different usages and so on.

If he wishes to ask a question concerning his UFTM, he should give all UFTM details.

In addition, the recipient will see his message among a lot of other mails/slack messages, and might postpone handling it since currently he's handling other matters.

Alternatively, if we succeed to embed a simple messaging mechanism inside UFTM, any user which logins to UFTM, will see the INSIDE this UFTM, ONLY messages concerning this specific environment, separately from any other message, in the perfect timing - when he's already logged in, and just a click away from the issue handling entrypoint inside his sharedspace/workspace.

Each UFTM page should have the option to send a message.

There'll be 2 types of messages:

1) User messages (default and only option for users) - any user can send the message to his workspace admin / sharedspace admin.

User messages can be anything the user want to ask/inform his admin, for example - why a device is not connected, why there are no apps in our workspace, etc...

In case there are multiple sharedspace admins, all of them will be able to see the message

2) Admin messages - any admin can publish to all his users a public message about any administrative matter which he wants to inform his users about, for Example -

"Samsung S6 device is about to go to a downtime in 1st January 2021"

"PPU licenses are being widely used, and as a policy of cutting costs, we're about to conduct reallocation of those licenses, starting from 15th of February 2023, be prepared!

To send the message, the user will be required to access an extra bubble in the bottom of the screen, similar to the one that we have today for the howTo.

To read the messages, each user will have an icon in the top right side of the screen, near the logout button on the masthead, that will pop out a red counter (Similar to facebook counter) which will indicate the amount of unread messages.

Clicking the counter will open a medium sized interactive little mailbox, with the 1st 100 chars of each msg (With ellipsis in the end if needed)

Hovering a message will show it to the user. (In case it contains a screenshot, only a screenshot indication will appear, see screenshots extra feature).

Clicking a message, will open it in another browser tab, including the screenshot embedded below it if it has one. (See screenshot extra feature)

Messages can be stored in a simple MESSAGES table in the database alongside the type (User/Admin), workspace & shared-space Id, and will be added / retrieved using a REST call.

Upon login or any navigation, the backend will be queried for messages update, and will bring the information from the table to the client.

All messages will have the option of automatically including a screenshot of the screen from which they were submitted.

Such a screenshot will enable the reader to better understand the context of the message.

For example, if a user wants to inform an admin that he failed to initiate VNC connection to his iPhone X device, when he sends the message, he can mark a screenshot checkbox, which if he does - will include a screenshot of the current state of the screen in the message.

Screenshots can be saved as a blob in the database or inside the filesystem.

One of our biggest challenges remains awareness. we rely heavily on our current install-base, but we can do more to communicate with our install-base .

Our customers just don't know about the great innovation we continuously release. we need to up our game and put it right in front of their faces.

The idea is for each product to have a shared component (example: masthead ) where we could control the messages that end users see dynamically from a hosted server.

Examples of messages to end users could be: announcements of new releases, short how-to blurbs, links to videos, etc.

The hosted server could filter which message goes where by product type, version, geo, size and other parameters we define.

Motivation:

Raise the UFTM sales by embedding the ability to reply UFT scripts directly on mobile devices and reflect the results of the execution.

Idea:

Today when offer to our customers the UFTM product, They ask about the platform to run the UFT scripts every night, we are offing them some Microfocus product or Jenkins, so they will be able to replay the recorded scripts on mobile.

In the past, We had a StormRuunner Function (SRF) product which bring to the customers the ability to replay UFT scripts on cloud devices.

I would like to bring the execution UFT script's ability from SRF to the UFTM product.

Highlight feature for finding physical mobile device easily on large mobile labs

In the new situation of the CoronaVirus, many of the UFT mobile admins are working from home and they require the help of employees located at the office to physically find a mobile device in their large lab (+50 device) in order to perform physical plug & play or to perform maintainence with the device.

With this new feature, the admin will have highlighted button on the device card in the UFT Mobile web site, and once he will press on it the device will start flashing and beeping , so it can be located easily.

Statistic Summary report of automation testing from different machines.

The idea:

The ability to get information with simple configuration without getting out of home,

With using Jenkins integration.

The User can decide which information he want to get – with simple configuration.

For example:

How many jobs automation testing passed / not passed
Results of new features includes
Performance test results for more than one day,
Select the Version/Patch of the product to run
All the above from different machine that using for the Night Run.

The User select how he would like to get the report by:

Octane – dashboard
Teams – Send notification to all the teams members
Email – daily or other.

Device Lab System Alerts

Get notification from all the devices (IOS/Android) on their current status with the ability to monitor and control it: Temperature, Power supply, charging state and more – in real-time.

By adding a new dashboard to UFTM by the name Lab system alert, that present all the devices status in one display.

Today, we are already have this information - on Metrics tab but for this we need to access each device in separate.

Device System Alerts

The user will get notification on real time on the device status

If the device was disconnected but still charged
If the device is connected but it is not charged
How Many devices are connected to the Hub and which: iOS/Android – Type and Model
Period of time the device was connected and charged
The Temperature status

and etc.

In addition with integration of Cambrionix PowerPad15 smart hub - auto-detect attached devices and automatically adjust the current output to the highest level permitted by the device manufacturer and USB specifications that with using API you can monitor current consumption of each individual port, total connection time, charging time, turn power on/off to individual ports and emulate different charging profiles and etc.

The integration with the smart hub will assist to avoid devices disconnections due to power issues, overload charging and more.

Dimensions: auto-detect Binary/Text format without huge configuration effort.

Today Dimensions CM customers have to define and maintain lots of file extension-based rules for newly uploaded files to be treated correctly as binary or text.

There is usually a fallback option *.* at the end, so files which does not match defined patterns are treated as binary :'( Then this affects certain operations (like Blame, Auto-merge) to not work with files marked as Binary, even though their content is of text nature.

A better fall-back option would be to auto-detect the nature of file binary vs. text, using plenty of libraries and if extension is still unknown - doing express test of file content.

Pulse notifications in MS Teams

Pulse sends notifications to email.

That'd be convenient to switch between delivery methods - email/MS Teams.

Say, it will be great to have daily notification in Teams if some Review is with someone more than 24 hours, so it goes faster through this stage to QA.

Some notifications'd be useful on Teams Channel level so the whole team sees them, say - if some build fails or new findings from Pulse Experts.

Who can help - Igor Spitkovskyi has experience integrating with Teams. There is also Octane+MSTeams idea in this hackathon, so you can collaborate to reuse some code/solutions.

ALM SSO diagnosis

UFT Planner

UFT Planner is to help users to schedule tests.

UFT Planner is web service for user to plan and run test group. It will be more easier than batch runner and parallel runner.

There are two parts. One is batch running, user can add test or test folder to plan and run. Another is parallel part, user can configure parallel tests by drag and drop graphics like below.

When working from multiple sites (or WFH), the expectation is for every board viewer, to see the changes as they happen - without the need to manually refresh the board, as the case is today in ALM Octane.

Live Board

The moment a user modifies a card on the board (Drops it, updates it, adding a new one, or deletes one) - all other remote board viewers will see the change instantly with an indication of which user made the change.

Investigate novel authentication for Git clients

Pulse for Git (GitUno) is likely to need to support multi-factor authentication or smartcard-based certificate authentication.

There are tools to provide this functionality (including Micro Focus products), but the constraints of Git make many of them unusable.

Research how to enable MFA/SC authentication in Git, and the burden to the customer of it.

Sentiment analysis on review comments to encourage teamwork

Carelessness with language when commenting on reviews hurts team cohesion. Also, developers may select reviewers who will not be negative, rather than provide the best review. Careful language encourages good communication.

This addition to Pulse’s code reviews does "sentiment analysis" of comments as the reviewer is typing them, discouraging the reviewer from negative phraseology.

Dimensions CM: Implement "Quick Find" in "Folders and Items" view in Desktop Client

Existing "Find Item" functionality is extremely redundant and inconvenient to use.

The idea is to add "Find/Find next" in the same way as its done in Windows Registry Editor:

- You can find files or folders or both of them

- Find will expand folder in a tree and will scroll to the file name, which matches the criteria

Dimensions CM: Auto-expand empty folders in Desktop Client

When working with Java projects, it's quite annoying to expand all the levels of com/company/namespace/project/something... etc.

The idea is to recursively expand folders, which only contain one child folder and there are no files.

Motivation

How many times a developer asks himself questions like:

- iOS device on an old env

- UFT One machine with version 15.1 to try out an access to UFTM from tool

- External connector which has several devices connected to it.

Etc …

Typically, the solution is to ask the team who has ….. This might be in problematic hrs, can take time, he should send you auth details.

Very cumbersome process.
