AccuRev executable cannot be found when using Visual Studio Plugin on 64 bit machine

PROBLEM:
Trying to use the Visual Studio plugin for AccuRev on a 64 bit system fails with an error of "accurev executable cannot be found or the registry does not contain the correct InstallPath key. Please contact customer support.

SOLUTION:
Confirm that the following registry key exists and the path to AccuRev for the value is correct:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AccuRev

If not, then an uninstall and reinstall of AccuRev may be required.
