Problem:

What is the workflow when using LDAP and/or local logins with Mixed Mode Authentication with SilkCentral Test Manager?

Resolution:

The diagram below shows the workflow for logging into SilkCentral Test Manager when using combinations of LDAP and local credentials with Mixed Mode Authentication.

LDAP login workflow

Example Scenarios:

  1. If there is no LDAP server defined, the local database will be interrogated for the login credentials.
  2. If an LDAP server is defined but is not active then the local database will be interrogated for the login credentials.
  3. If an LDAP server is active and defined but is not reachable, SilkCentral Test Manager will then check to see if Mixed Mode Authentication is checked.
    • If Mixed Mode Authentication is checked then the local database will be interrogated for the login credentials.
    • If Mixed Mode Authentication is not checked then Access will be denied and the login will be unsuccessful.
  4. If an LDAP server is active, defined and is reachable the login will be passed onto the LDAP server.
    • If the LDAP login then fails and the User is known on the LDAP server then Access will be denied and the login will be unsuccessful.
    • If the LDAP login fails and the User is not known on the LDAP server and Mixed Mode Authentication is not active then Access will be denied and the login will be unsuccessful.
    • If the LDAP login fails and the User is not known on the LDAP server and Mixed Mode Authentication is active then the local database will be interrogated for the login credentials.
  5. Finally, if an LDAP server is active, defined, reachable and then the LDAP login is successful then Access will be granted.
