Yes, you can import a Manual Test from an Excel document to SCTM (SilkCentral Test Manager).

You can work with an existing Microsoft Excel file that already contains manual tests and has never been saved to SilkCentral Test Manager or with an existing MS Excel file that has already been saved to Test Manager.

Before you start will need to:

• Import the Office Import Tool for Manual Tests (which will be found in SilkCentral Test Manager)

• Install the Microsoft .NET Framework (see the Microsoft download site)

To Import Manual Tests from an MS Excel file

1. Open your workbook and attach the Manual Tests template, apply the Manual Tests add-in, if it is not already attached. If you have not already configured the Office Import applications, do so now.

   To apply an add-in to an MS Excel workbook

   • Open your MS Excel workbook, if it is not already open.
   • Navigate to Tools / Add-Ins
   • Select the appropriate add-in:
     • Requirements Test Import, if you are working with requirements
     • Test Manager Manual Test Import.dot, if you are importing manual tests
     
     
   • If these do not appear in your list of available add-ins, click Browse and navigate to the default installation directory, C:/Documents and Settings//Application Data/Microsoft/Addins. Select the Requirement Test Import.xla or Manual Test Import.xla and click OK. If you get a message about a file with that name already existing, click OK.
     
   • Click OK on the Add-Ins dialog.
     

   
   

2. Edit your text, if necessary.
   

3. Use the icons displayed in the Manual Test toolbar to apply styles to the cells in your workbook. To do this, place the cursor anywhere on a cell, and click on one of the Manual Tests toolbar selections. Check the Toolbar Style window as you click on each selection to verify that the correct style is applied.
   

   
   

4. Save your document and start the Manual Tests Import application. Select the range of cells you want to import.
   

5. Select and browse to select your document or select the document from the list, if it is already open. Indicate whether your document has row-based or column-based worksheets.
   

6. Click Attach. If you have not already configured the Office Import applications, you are prompted to do so now.
   

7. At the Login view, enter your user name and password, then click Next. See your system administrator if you do not know your user name and password.
   

8. On the Choose Project view, select the project to which you want to import these manual tests, then click Next.
   

9. On the Choose Container view, select the container to which you want to import these manual tests, then click Next.
   

10. The Preview Changes view displays a summary of the edits you made. If this is the first time you have updated the information from this document, you will see all of the new manual tests you entered listed in the "New Manual Tests" section. If you have added many new tests, you can use this view to navigate through your document to see the changes. Click on the items listed to jump to that item in your MS Excel file and make edits, if necessary.
    
    • When you save a document with manual tests, you will receive a message if you do not have a "Step Name" (style named "seg_man_step") applied to at least one paragraph; this is a warning message only, you are not required to have a "Step Name" in your document.
    • You must correct any Errors listed before you can commit your changes. After correcting the errors or making additional edits, click Reprocess.
    • Click Next to commit your changes. If you have not already saved your workbook, Test Manager prompts you to do so now.
