Problem:

How to handle the bad CR"s that are created as a result of incomplete VCM merge."

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2008
  • Product Component: View/Compare Merge
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows XP
  • JDK/Compiler Version: 1.6.0_02

Description:

What happens if I have to kill the StarTeam process during a large View/Compare Merge session if the Cancel button does not respond?

Answer/Solution:

If you kill a VCM committal and you end up with some bad CRs do the following:

1. Determine which CRs are bad and move them to another folder. These CRs will either not have an arrow pointing to the instance"s reference in the reference tab, or the instance"s reference will be noted as "(deleted)".

2. Create a branching view off of the view with the bad CRs. Share these CRs back into the view into a different location than the bad CRs were moved to and edit one to ensure it is now functioning properly. Delete the bad versions of the CRs. Move the good versions to the desired locations.
