Problem:

Forced to kill the StarTeam Server in Task Manager, now it still thinks it is running.

Resolution:

  • Product Name: StarTeam
  • Product Version: 2006, 2008
  • Product Component: Server
  • Platform/OS Version: Windows 2003

Description:
The StarTeam Administrator GUI and log shows that a server is being started, however, the service was stopped using Task Manager. How can I configured the GUI so that I can again start the service from the GUI?

Answer/Solution:
To get the server back in a ready state so that it can start through the GUI, the StarTeam Administrator will need to edit starteam-server-configs.xml. This file is located in the StarTeam Server installation folder, usually c:\program files\borland\starteam server 2008. Edit the file in NotePad or any text editor. Be careful not to break the XML tags. Locate the section that is for the server configuration in question. The xml tag is the tag. It will probably say Running or Stopping. The StarTeam Administrator will need to change it to "Ready" and it is case-sensitive. Once the value is changed, save the file and the change will be picked up immediately in the server admin tool and the StarTeam Administrator can then start the server as normal.
