How to properly license a StarTeam Server for test environments

Description:

Since it is a violation of the StarTeam License Agreement to use the same license on two servers, many customers routinely ask how to properly license a test server. The purpose of this article is to help you decide which licensing strategy works best for your organization.

Answer/Solution:

There are two options:

1. Buy a seperate license for your StarTeam test server. Contact your Sales Representative to facilitate this. Customer"s typically order a single named license since its the cheapest option.
2. Use Borland License Server. You can purchase 15 concurrent licenses and split your license file alotment between multiple servers. You can host 14/15 to the Production Server and 1/15 to the Test Server. You will receive two different slip files and you will have to take care to place the correct slip file on the correct server. The License Server will take care of the rest.
