Problem:

ERR An unexpected error was encountered (vault verify)

Resolution:

Problem

If the option to run vault verify is checked for StarTeam Server 4.0 or StarTeam Server 4.1, the StarTeam Server will abort the startup process, producing the following error in the server.log:

11 12/14/2000 11:03:57 AM M Beginning vault verification.
12 12/14/2000 11:03:57 AM E EXCEPTION during Server Startup
Exception class: Unknown
Exception code: -1 (FFFFFFFF)
Exception message: An unexpected error was encountered

This error has been addressed in StarTeam 4.2.

Workaround

In the StarTeam Select Server dialog box, select your server configuration, and click on the properties button. Make sure to check View server configuration before the server starts.

Star the StarTeam Server configuration.

When the Server properties dialog comes up, go to the vault tab, and uncheck Verify Vault on Startup:

The StarTeam server will now startup without error.

To verify the StarTeam repository, the Vault verify can be run in a separate action by running the Repository Tools program installed with the StarTeam server.

It is recommended that users of StarTeam 4.0 or StarTeam 4.1 to upgrade to StarTeam 4.2 or better to avoid this issue.
