This article will explain the expected behavior around the ability to open an embedded object in View or Read-Only mode.

Environment

Content Manager 10.1x
Content Manager 23.x
Content Manager 24.x
 

Situation

The user encounters an issue where embedded documents in Microsoft Word cannot be opened if the document is opened in View or Read-Only mode (stored in Content Manager). If the users edit the document, then embedded objects/documents can be opened.
