Support Tip: Content Manager IDOL Media Server service refuses to start

Symptoms

Content Manager 9.3 Patch 3 Build 546IDOL Media Server x64 installed using CM_MediaServer_x64.msi, along with:- vcredist_2010.exe- vcredist_2013.exe- vcredist_x86_2013.exeunder runtime folder of Media Server installation directory.
Still unable to start Content Manager IDOL Media Server service.

Solution

This is an issue whilst installing Media Server using CM_MediaServer_x64.msi where the configuration files for Media Server do not get created, just the template files instead.

Workaround is go to Media Server installation location (by default it is C:\Program Files\Micro Focus\Content Manager\IDOL\TRIM Media Server) and rename the files:

“TRIM Media Server OCR.cfg.template” to "TRIM Media Server OCR.cfg"
“TRIM Media Server.cfg.template" to "TRIM Media Server.cfg"

CM Media service should now run normally.

This issue was resolved in CM 9.4.
