Announcing Micro Focus Data Protector 10.02

We are proud to announce the latest update to Micro Focus Data Protector, our enterprise class backup and recovery software for physical and virtual environments that was designed for the dynamic, data-driven data center. Data Protector is the core component of our Data Protection suite which also includes Backup Navigator, an analytics, monitoring and reporting tool which allows customers to monitor and optimize their backup and recovery environment and backup strategy.

The new release is available to all customers to download today from the Micro Focus support site.  If you would like to familiarize yourself with the other recent versions of Data Protector, read this blog about Data Protector 10.00 which introduced major advancements in security and introduced a new web-based user interface, and Data Protector 10.01 which added more features to the Consolidated Scheduler giving users a greater control to manage their environments. 

And now we have released the latest version, Data Protector 10.02! The following section highlights key features in this version:  

  1. Usability improvements to the Data Protector Consolidated Scheduler

Data Protector 10.02 continues to improve the usability of the consolidated scheduler by enhancing the scheduling granularity capability. The consolidated scheduler now offers by-the-minute and by-the-hour backup schedule cadence in addition to daily and monthly views.  A debugging option that enables debugs at per schedule level is also available in this release.DP Schedule.PNG


2. Storage integrations with third-party storage systems.

Data Protector 10.02 customers with heterogeneous environments will benefit from easier integrations with these storage systems, including simplifying management and reducing costs:

Support for NetApp ONTAP 9.1 FirmWare – which now offers features such as:

  • Volume Encryption (NVE)
  • FlexGroups
  • Cloud support for Microsoft Azure on top of
    existing AWS support.

Support for HPE Recovery Manager Central (RMC) 4.0 / 4.1 – which now offers features such as:

  • RMC Data Mover also available on Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Supports HPE StorVirtual Storage Systems ( 3PAR)


3. Platform and application support.

Data Protector 10.02 adds support for additional applications which expands a large and comprehensive interoperability matrix and simplifying integration with Data Protector: 

Support for SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 01 which introduced new features for backup and recovery such as:

  • Backup encryption
  • Improved support for third-party backup tools  
  • Recovery from storage snapshots
  • Enhancement for tenant databases

Support for Microsoft Exchange 2016 and Granular Recovery. Users can now perform Granular Recovery with latest Microsoft Exchange 2016 on Windows Server 2016.  

In summary 

Data Protector 10.00, which was released in June, was the first major release in the past three years. It marked a significant moment in the Data Protector history with the introduction of the first phase of the new web user interface and improvements to the underlying security model. Data Protector 10.01 added new features in the area of User Interface and Storage and Platform Integrations. And now our most recent release, Data Protector 10.02 continues to improve the Consolidated Scheduler experience and adds storage integrations with third- party arrays and application integrations.
