Data Protector 23.4 Oracle integration - RAC Databases not showing up

Hello,

We have a Windows Server 2022 Cell Manager with DP23.4 installed and an Oracle RAC 19c in Oracle Linux 8. The RAC clients have the Oracle integration installed.

The problem is that when we try to configure a new database backup, no databases are showing up (except for the management database).

Any ideas?

    Hello

It looks like a rights user issue, Which account you did use for to configure integration?

    • Identify the Oracle database user that will be used by Data Protector for backup. This user must have the SYSDBA privilege granted. For example, it could be the Oracle user sys, which is created during database creation. The user must have been granted the SYSBACKUP privilege. Also, you can use the user with SYSDBA privilege but first you must set omnirc variable OB2_ORACLE_USE_SYSDBA to 1.

If that is accomplished please provide any screenshot showing the issue that you have.

    Hello

We always use the sys user and we've already set the omnirc parameter.

The problem is we can't proceed with the configuration as we don't see any of the RAC databases to choose from, except for the management database (see the screenshot below).

We don't have this problem with a single instance database, only with the RAC databases.

    Hello

Please check that you have followed those steps

    • In Services, type the net service name for the primary database instance. The backup will be performed on the system where this database instance resides. RAC:List all net services names for the primary database separated by a comma.
    • Environment variable OB2_DPMCTL_SHRLOC to enable Data Protector Managed Control File backups and the corresponding restore sessions, ensure this directory resides on a shared disk that all RAC nodes can access.
    • Each node must have a dedicated disk for storing archive logs. Such disks must be NFS mounted on all other RAC nodes.
    • However, if the archive logs are not on a NFS mounted disk, you must modify the archive log backup specification.
    • Configure an Oracle database on every node from where you want to run backups and restores.
    • Select the virtual server of the Oracle resource group.

    Hello,

We're selecting the virtual server of the Oracle resource group, but we don't get to the point where we set the service names etc etc, because we can't see any of the RAC databases to choose from and proceed with the configuration. The problem is in the very first screen when we select the 'Client' and then we must select the 'Application database': no databases are showing up in the "Application Database" drop-down menu.

    Hello

    Please check

From integration guide: Ensure that the Oracle user oracle from the Oracle Inventory group ( oinstall ) has been added to the Data Protector admin user group.

Add the OSDBA user account to the Data Protector admin or operator user group

After that if issue still remain try to type database name manually into "application database" box and check if you can configure integration.

    Hello,

I tried your suggestion to type the database name manually and managed to configure the integration and backup the RAC database successfully.
But... since I've never used this manual way before, my main concern now is if this backup is valid or not.

    Hello

Doesn't matter if you type database name manually or is discovered automatically, please check backup session report looking for any error message, if you can not see errors backup must be valid.

No error messages, the backup completed successfully.

    Thank you for your help.
