Data Protector 9 upgrade to 24

Hi,

 We have Data Protector 9 on Windows.

Can we upgrade directly to DP 24?

Do we need to jump to DP 11 before DP 24?

Please advise.

regards

J

    Unfortunately direct upgrade is not possible being DP 9 a non supported version. You must follow the upgrade instruction in DP 11 manual. Considering you are currently using DP 9 you can upgrade on the same server from DP 9 to DP 10.91 and then follow DP 10.91 migration to DP 11 (see DP 10.91 upgrade manual for details).

    Hi Dion,

      Thanks for the reply.

     I've tried the following:

    1) Upgrade 9 (9.09 patched) to 11.30 => Failed

    2) Upgrade 9 (9.09 patched) to 10.91 => Failed

    3) Upgrade 9 (9.09 patched) to 10.60 => Successful

    I'm at DP 10.60 now, how should I proceed from here?

    i) Upgrade 10.60 to 10.91

    ii) Upgrade 10.91 to 11.03

    Finally => Upgrade 11.03 to 24 ?

    I've tried to upgrade 10.60 to 10.91

    Failed with message (log & GUI )

    [CRITICAL] Database upgrade to new version failed.
    [CRITICAL_DETAIL] [ERROR]
    [NORMAL] Installation server successfully imported.
    [WARNING] Configuration of cell has not been updated.

    [CRITICAL] Skipped Schedules/Templates Migration
    [CRITICAL_DETAIL] Skipped Schedules/Templates migration executed as Appserver is not up and running

    Even a point version upgrade (10.60 to 10.91) also failed?

    What's going on with DP?

    Can anyone help?

    The problem is the upgrade to the newer postgresql version in 10.70 which is giving issues with the current MicroSoft Windows patches. The way to handle your situation is to migrate to 11.01 and after that upgrade to the desired version. Migration mean:

    • Create a brand new 11.01 cell
    • Migrate the data from the old cell (can be 9.x up to 10.60) to the new cell

    After this migration an upgrade to a later version is possible.

    After this migration, please follow the upgrade steps documented in the manual for the desired version.

    Hi Koen,

      Thanks for the reply. Looks like that's the only way to do it.

    Need to find another server to perform this interim step.

    Not possible to do same server upgrade then.

    Doing this on another server is the recommended way indeed as you can keep your old cell as long as required.

    And as a general note I would like to recommend everyone to stay up-to-date and regularly upgrade, which avoids critical issues during the upgrade.
