Backup Stalled / Strange Debug Entries on DA

Hi All

I have a backup in my 9.06 DP environment.

Backup runs perfectly except for my 2 large WIndows File Servers.

Over the past 3 weeks these servers are either taking 3 times as long to back up or just sit at 'Running' actually doing nothing except filling up their respective Debug logs.

I am seeing the following (See below) this entry is repeated constantly and both debugs are sitting at around 6GB.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

Based on the debug.log entry I would guess that the clients are Windows 2012 and you're doing backups of dedupe-enabled volumes. While this is not a problem, the disks might get busy when reading all the data. Please have a look at the disk queue. Have you excluded the Chunk store from backup? Virus scanners should not scan on read operation. Turn off statistical information and tree walk (omnirc).

  • Quick question around the exclusion of the 'Chunk Store' on these server.

I have tried excluding the \system volume information\dedup and  ..\dedup\chunk store and keep seeing the following in the backup spec when trying a preview:

    [Normal] From: VBDA@Servername.domain "E: [New Volume]" Time: 29/09/2016 11:42:33
VSS Writer 'Dedup Writer':Component 'Chunk Store' successfully added in the snapshot.

    [Normal] From: VBDA@Servername.domain "E: [New Volume]" Time: 29/09/2016 11:42:33
VSS Writer 'Dedup Writer':Component 'Dedup Configuration' successfully added in the snapshot.

    Am I missing something here?

    Thanks again

  • This is expected because it is a Dedupe-enabled volume. The VSS option will prepare the Chunk store for online backup, but we excluded it from VBDA backup. You should notice that the amount of data backed up will be reduced, especially in incr backups.

  • Many thanks Sebastian,

    Will retry again
