VmWare 6 integration with DP 9.04

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone managed to integrate VMware 6 with DP 9.04. Everytime we are trying to import Vcenter we are getting a bad message format error , 12:1009. Vcenter is reachable both from DP Cell and also from the media server were we will be mounting the datastores.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

  • Hello,

    this may be caused due a mismatch in the patch level between your cell manager and your GUI server, if your cell manager is 9.04 then upgrade also your GUI server to 9.04.

    if the problem persist set this variable in the global file: programdata\omniback\config\server\options\global

    UseJCEForRestartResume=0

    then restart DP services, omnisv stop / start.

  • Hi Marcos,

    Added UseJCEForRestartResume=0 in /etc/opt/omni/server/options/global and restarted cell manager services but issue still present.

    Re-GUI server this is Cell manager itself we are connecting using our laptops to cell mgr.

    Any other ideas ?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

    what is the patches version of your cell manager?

    /opt/omni/bin/    omnicheck -patches

    from your laptop run: omnicc -version

    put the outputs here please.

    HP Data Protector A.09.00: OMNICC, internal build 87, built on 10 June 2014, 01:46

  • you have in your cell manager build 104 = 9.04

    you have in your clients build 87 = 9.00

    upgrade your clients to DP 9.04, then try again

    Hi Marcos,

    You were right it slipped my mind how to upgrade the local PC now managed to import Vmware without any issues.. the only issue that now im seeing is when we specify the backup job and select the backup host it seems that either the GUI is just not responding or else there are some communication problems. Any idea from where this is coming ?

    After around 30 minutes then we get :

    Error : configuration check failed 12:8022

    From a firewall perspective everything is open from the backup host towards the Vcenter and also the other way round.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Marcus,

    managed to sort it out - yes it was a firewall issue, upon further investigation noticed that there was not complete access between the backup client and Cell.

    Many thanks for your help!

    R

    Etienne.

  • Marcus had to come back yet again :/ So now manage to open all ports to avoid some hassles , started the Vcenter integration however we are not managing to see & select any VMs after importing vcenter .

    So the setup is we've zoned a test lun between vcenter and the linux backup host. The latter has a storeonce zoned aswell. test lun is visible on the backup host and configured in multipathd. We are hoping to have a lan free backup system..

    Going back to the subject cannot understand why none of the vms are visible (shown in the attached screenshot). As for rights for VMware user we assigned all those documented in the config guide - also tried using the administrator@vsphere.local account but no vms are shown. Any logs which i maybe see - already had a look on the backup server and only VEPA starting is shown.

  • Are the VMs you want to back up located under the Datacenter/Organisation you defined during the Integration?

    f.E. if the VMs are all under Root (/) you won't see them listed in your setup.

    Maybe try using "All Datacenters" and see if you get some Listed with that.

  • you are correct, also the user you set to create the integration should have the following rights/roles assigned in the Vcenter:

    Host -> Configuration -> Maintenance
    Host -> Inventory -> Add standalone host
    Network -> Assign network
    Resource -> Assign virtual machine to resource pool
    Resource -> Remove resource pool
    Resource -> Rename resource pool
    Sessions -> Validate session
    vApp -> Delete
    vApp -> Rename
    vApp -> Add virtual machine
    Virtual machine -> Snapshot Management -> Revert to snapshot
    Virtual machine -> Configuration *
    Virtual machine -> Interaction -> Answer question
    Virtual machine -> Interaction -> Power Off
    Virtual machine -> Interaction -> Power On
    Virtual machine -> Inventory -> Create new
    Virtual machine -> Inventory -> Register
    Virtual machine -> Inventory -> Remove
    Virtual machine -> Inventory -> Unregister
    Virtual machine -> Provisioning *
    Virtual machine -> Snapshot Management -> Create snapshot
    Virtual machine -> Snapshot Management -> Remove snapshot

  • Yes all VMs are located under one Datacenter , also tried using all datacenters but unfortunately nothing is shown. In the meantime we've opened a case with HP who are investigating what might be the issue. We've also used administrator@vpshere.local and no VMs are being shown.

  • Yep user has these rights aswell under vsphere.local domain. Already confirmed twice. I guess have to wait maybe we can find something with HP.

    One thing that we've noticed is that when we select the datacenter from the drop down list we are also getting a strange listing  :
