Data Protector - Restoredrill Suggestions

Hi All,

As per customer's request, I want to perform restore drill of our backup server to a virtual server. I have installed the HPDP on the Virtual server. I don't want to connect any tape library or device  on the VM cell server. But I want to restore the IDB from our Physical cell server to VM cell server without any device connectivity.

Do we have any option for the IDB offline restore without library or Storeonce configuration.

HP DP version: 10.30 - Physical server - I have a local IDB backup

    Hi,

    Assuming the IDB backup can still be re-done, I would backup to a file device. That is easy to transfer and configure on the VM.

    As Koen already suggested, a file device or library would be an easy option.
    Here you can find the instructions to copy the data to another host:

    I have taken the IDB backup on the juke box and imported the IDB files on the VM cell server slots. Then I followed the offline restore, but it is aborted.

    Which is the best way to restore the IDB from the different cell manager backup.

    I have successfully completed the offline restore. Post that I am getting the below port 7116 error. Please suggest on the same.

    So the restore did complete successfully now?

    But you did not go through the procedure of updating the AppServer configuration and everything I assume!? The following looks pretty complete to me: Perform guided autorecovery - IDB restore and replay archived log files. However, it is assuming that the hostname of the CS did not change. And that is what I would recommend anyway if possible. Obviously that requires that the original host is shutdown after collecting the needed info.

    I changed the CS name, but still getting the same error.

    PS C:\Windows\system32> omnidbutil -show_cell_name
    Catalog database owner: "trebkp.westsap"
    PS C:\Windows\system32> omnidbutil -change_cell_name
    Old owner found in CDB is trebkp.westsap.
    New owner determined from configuration should be restodrill.trenthyper.
    Old owner trebkp.westsap owns:
    156 media,
    14 pools,
    3 libraries.
    New owner restodrill.trenthyper owns:
    nothing.
    This action will change ownership of libraries, devices, media pools and media.
    Are you sure [y/n]?y
    Owner has been changed to restodrill.trenthyper in CDB.
    Owner has been changed to restodrill.trenthyper in JCEDB.
    Owner has been changed from trebkp.westsap to restodrill.trenthyper in MMDB for:

    So that is what I meant: your new server is having a different name, which is complicating things. The IDB recovery assumes you are recovering a crashed cell server and the hostname is unchanged. Do you really need to have a different hostname?

    Also and even more important: did you go through the documented procedure for reconfiguring the Application Server after the IDB restore?

    Yes, I need a different host name for the testing cell server, also I followed all the things as per the documents. I am not sure what did I miss.
