DP 9.00 data protector IDB restoration.

We are using data protector version 9.00 and faced some issues while upgrading to version 10.40 .So iam looking  to roll back to 9 again by using tape ,which was used for IDB backup. But i didnt know the exact Tape id and nothing is showing in data protector management console. How can i identify the backup session and tape id? We have  linux cell manager.

    There are 2 files which may help here:

    /var/opt/omni/log/server/media.log
    /etc/opt/omni/server/db80/logfiles/rlog/obrindex.dat

    Both would help you to find sessionID and tape label / tapeID of the IDB session. Obviously, if you did not save these files somewhere separately then you would first need to restore them from a file system backup also and for that you would need to know what you latest file system backup is to be able to restaor the latest version of these files. So it may become a trial and error exercise.

    How many tapes do you have? If the numebr is low then you may want to start importing all tapes maybe!?

    In general, it is always a good idea to keep IDB backups nicely separated on a specific set of tapes, so you know at all times where the IDB backups are located in case you need them. Also, it is good to keep an offline copy of the mentioned files: media.log and obrindex.dat. These files are key to have in case of a disaster. And last but not least, I need to tell you that not only DP9 is out of committed support for a long time already, but also the version you are upgrading to (10.40) is out of committed support for some months already.

    We have almost150 tapes are available .Some of the tapes are  already imported to dp ,only that particular tapes are listed in media.log file but its not  contain the required session and tape id.  what is latest dp version that have a support in RHEL 6?

    Your current media.log will only contain theinfo of the imported tapes indeed. But you could try to restore one from a filesystem backup possibly. That is what I meant. Obviously, you still need to restore a recent one to have the latest info included.

    The latest version supporting RHEL 6 is 10.91.

    If we found a IDB backup rather than the latest, is it sufficient to restore the IDB ? Because the dp is not in the production environment.

    Assuming the configuration did not change, you would have at least the complete configuration back. Obviously, the media management database won't be the latest and you may still have to import some tapes.

    There is one tape id mentioned in the obrindex.dat file .Is it the same one we used for IDB backup?

    Not sure I'm getting the question. But looks like an IDB backup was run on November, 10.
