Rebooting Disk Agent host with “PsMon driver” boots host into maintenance mode

When you reboot a Windows Server 2016 or a Windows Server 2019 system having the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) and Secure boot enabled, the system goes into maintenance mode.

Environment
Data Protector Cell Manager or Disk Agent on Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019 having UEFI and Secure boot enabled.

Impacted versions
Data Protector Versions 10.90 (2020.11) and 10.91 (2021.02).

Cause
This is because of an expired EV certificate used for signing the Windows drivers.

Solution

To resolve the issue, complete the following steps on Cell Manager / Disk Agent Host:

  1. With the system in maintenance mode, Go to Troubleshooting and select Disabling signature verification.
  2. Reboot the system.
  3. Uninstall the driver by using “omnicc -chgblkdrvr_uninstall” and reboot the system.
  4. Please contact support and get the hotfix OCTCR19Q1392741_HF.zip
  5. Extract “OCTCR19Q1392741_HF.zip” to a temporary location. Replace the “psmon.sys” and “psmoncntrl.sys drivers on the system with the newly extracted drivers.
  6. Reinstall the drivers.
  7. Reboot the system.
