Data Protector version: 23.4
Operating System: Windows Server 2022

Situation

After upgrade to 23.4 installation summary gives errors and hpdp-as service cannot start

[NORMAL_DETAIL] Service Data Protector Inet started.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Service Data Protector CRS started.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Service Data Protector Filter Listener Service started.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Service Data Protector IDB started.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Service Data Protector IDB connection pool started.
[WARNING] Application server configuration utility completed with warnings.
[WARNING_DETAIL] Application server configuration utility completed with warnings:
[CRITICAL] Update of AS Configuration failed.
[CRITICAL] Application server configuration utility failed.
[CRITICAL_DETAIL] Application server configuration utility failed:
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
Command execution failed with exit status: 1
[CRITICAL] Update credstore configuration failed.

Cause

During the upgrade process while Data Protector removes old configuration and binary files, the java files are not being removed. Therefore, when upgrade initializes the new java process it detects that java is already present, therefore hpdp-as services cannot be configured and started.
