Is it possible to use Filr upload link for multiple files or a persistent link?

Hello all,

I am Keith and I am seeking some help regarding Filr. I am looking for a way to upload registration data from parents in a school district setting. I have been testing the Filr upload link function and it works well, but I am hoping to find a way to upload multiple files with one link or have a persistent link that can be used multiple times. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to make this happen?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Best regards, Keith

    Hello Keith,

I am not aware of this being possible, and currently for good reasons. We usually have recipients create a zip file and upload that, so it is all in one package. As soon as there is someone who needs to send us files regularly, we share a folder in an upload area with them.

As for the rationale: why would you not want an upload link that works multiple times? Well:

    • Links are sent by E-Mail. SMTP Emails are often not encrypted "on the wire", so basically "anyone" can get the link. With a single-use link, you and the recipient will notice if it is abused. A multi-use link could be used for attacks by e.g. uploading a fake file with malware named "requested-document-new-version-please-use-this-one.odt", or could be used for a DOS attack by uploading a huge number of documents.
    • File Upload Links can be used from Net Folders, and if they would be reusable without authentication, a DOS attack can be aimed at my file servers in the backend, plus storage space monitoring may need to be more agile, here.
    • When a recipient of a link leaves an organisation the link may now be in unkown hands without you being notified.

However, I do see the value in a multi-use upload link - it just needs to be made secure and safe, like e.g. by setting a time limit or by adding a password for the upload that does not need a registered username.
You might want to look at/comment on/vote for one of the relevant ideas:

There are also Ideas for "outbound" non-login links that you can refer to in a comment on the above ideas. This can help, since for engineering, it may be more viable to look at "password protection for anonymous access" as a logic item if multiple ideas need it. Outbound Link Ideas are:

As you see by the Upload Link function having come from an idea:  Upload By Link - possibility to send a link to someone which allows them to upload a file , you can see that Ideas work, especially with Filr Slight smile

I hope this helps and have fun with Fillr!
    Cheers
    Christian

This is not possible at the moment

There is an idea for this (community.microfocus.com/.../filr-upload-enhancement) that you can vote on

There are a couple of workarounds, neither of which are perfect : You can get the end user to zip up the files into one zip and upload that or you can share a folder with the user and give them contributor rights.
