How to set Work hours that cross the midnight 'barrier'?

I have some inquiries for this, where some of the shift work does cross that rather hard barrier(like some of OpenText support does) as I haven't been able to find how to get past it.  
That very hard coded A Work Day can only be fully contained in a Calendar Day.

Have already seen Thurderbird rejected just for this reason.
