What is the procedure for enabling LDAP authentication With multiple Trees

Hello, I was reading the GroupWise 8 manuals  ( www.novell.com/.../ak8h8gs.html and it mentioned this tidbit:

”NOTE: If multiple eDirectory trees are involved, refer to TID 10067272 in the Novell Support
Knowledgebase (http://www.novell.com/support) for additional instructions.”

I have searched high and low for TID  10067272 and it’s a circular reference because all Google is giving me are links to documents that reference it without pointing to it directly.

Thanks:

Carly G. Fleischmann

yes, old documents get purged all the time by all vendors,  link rot all the time <sigh>

Some of us will likely have read it and/or might understand the issues.  What are you trying to accomplish in your recreations?

    Hi:

right now, I am exploring LDAP authentication in general for GW and I am thinking of spinning up a set of 2 more eDirectory servers in preparation for when  I take the plunge into “multi system administration” to emulate two  companies merging who both use GroupWise. But I’m not ready to take that plunge just yet… I am still happily sending email between exchange 03 and GW and slowly learning feature by feature.

additionally, I love technical manuals and KBases of any stripe  (but especially those that are systems that I am actively learning). I say “the thicker and more detailed the manual, the better (and the Novell docs are some of the best IMO because they’re very detailed, easy to follow, and are chalked full of plenty of things to try out (and break more likely than not the first few times) which pushes my skills and understanding beyond current levels)”.

I usually find a VTC course or similar, and complete that once just watching it then again following along to get base skills then I seek out the manuals, KBases, and user communities  to feed my insatiable appetite for skills and knowledge (who knows a question about GroupWise 8 might be the daily double on jeopardy  or  win a bet with a friend one day over drinks at BK… I know wishful thinking)

in short this question is a preemptive move on my end to save hours of troubleshooting later (esp. now knowing that particular information is (seemingly for now) extinct. If having a memory issue later in life has taught me anything it’s “don’t let knowledge and skills die” thus I document my solutions, procedures, and the like mainly for my benefit but for the benefit of those who come after me and need this stuff. :-)

sorry for the rant, seeing knowledge lost just gets under my skin :-(

    Thanks:

    Carly G. Fleischmann

So do you know these slides? https://de.slideshare.net/NOVL/best-practices-for-administering-novell-groupwise-8

Legendary Robin/Tim duo did this session at many, many locations. However I think you can ask them both to get a pdf version Innocent

And I hope you have already downloaded gw8 documentation. However here is another interesting relict: https://www.novell.com/de-de/documentation/gw8/. Only user manuals are in German ...

I have not seen those slides, but I’ll look at them within the week. As to manuals, I have all the manuals for GW8 (minus the gateway manuals as I will download them later today), messenger 2 manuals, e Dir  8.8 manuals, and  ZENworks animals for v. 7…

Oh and I did setup LDAP auth in my single tree, multi-domain/multi-PO  environment and it works with an asterisk

the asterisk is that passwords get “out of sync” (user had a GW password prior to LDAP auth, user gets LDAP Auth working, and proceeds to change eDir password thus breaking iit) then once it’s all in sync, user gets prompted to enter their (directory) password every time the GW or notify is exited and restarted. But simple LDAP authentication works with compare thus one less password ( in the real world it’s convenient at cost of security best practices, in my environment it’s convenient for demos and internal communication)

    Thanks:
