IDN Domain in a GroupWise System

IDN domains - i.e. internationalized domains - have been available for use since 2003. IDN domains include all domains that contain characters that do not belong to the standard character set ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange). Internationalized domains were introduced because there were increasing problems with umlauts and special characters (non-ASCII characters) in different languages on the Internet.

Have any of the GroupWise pros here ever set up a GropWise system with an IDN domain? Is there any field experience? I own an IDM domain myself and I would like to be able to use the IDM domain as a mail address in GroupWise.

Please do not discuss the sense or nonsense of IDN domains in the post

    Hi,

no I haven't tried to setup an IDN domain and you mixing IDM and IDN in your post, should be only IDN I think.

GroupWise does punycode for a few years now so this should be working, not seen a lot of people using it but i do remember a few years ago i worked on a case that resulted in adding punycode for agents/gwadmin etc so they could email with partners that used IDN but also it can be used internal in GW with IDN domain names in the Internet Addressing

Im using one in the lab

Using this and sending to external you see this in the GWIA log, the punycode encoded string
    Sender: user@xn--tst-bma.com

The question that always remains is if the receiver supports it..

Thank´s rob, If you write something, it is well-founded and you can rely on a qualified answer

I have set up a groupwise test system with “stärkenspiegelung.de” before  to see if groupwise is basically functional. I didn't see any information on this topic in the documentation, so I asked if there was any experience.

But there are so many stumbling blocks around IDN domains when it comes to certificates, DNS etc., umlauts are certainly the better choice.

The GWIA rewrites for the IDN “stärkenspiegelung.de” in name@xn--strkenspiegelung-wnb.de

    Thanks Georg

When i have some time i might write a TID on the puny code support as indeed the docu is lacking info on this.

You're correct the puny code support is part of the issue and you can run into many issues with certs, receivers etc but i guess that's also the reason you don't see to many systems using it yet.
