Groupwise Mobility Server and "classic Outlook" vs. "new Outlook (365)"

GW/GMS 24.3

Hello,

classic Outlook can connect to GMS using "Exchange".

Now Microsoft installs a "new" Outlook 365 parallel to classic outlook. This version only allows to connect to an office 365 account, I cannot manual give our GMS address.

The detour using Windows system control / adding an email account doesn't work, outlook 365 doesn't access to this account.

On my informations MS plans to remove "classic" Outlook until end of 2024.

Is there any way to connect GMS with outlook 365 (no imap/no pop)?

What is ms Outlook or o365? OT had all what our Heart want: Groupwise, GMS, Messenger, gwweb, Filr, Vibe,OEs, etc

a stabil and Secure Messaging System and not „we have all Doors Open“ or you can Change the content of emails, etc…

"Classic Outlook" is good to at least 2029

the new one will only be for 365, so no hope there for those addicted to that particular interface, unless things change. But that is 5+ years in far the future of these things, and we've already seen M$ back step a few of their overly aggressive moves to controlling their slaves, I mean customers.

There are general moves to get away from the legacy protocols that have issues with security, and (assume compromised)Exchange is one of them. Clearly, Exchange users have been given an end of life to plan for, but that won't be soon enough for how easily it can be compromised in the same way we consider RDP to be 'Ransomware Deployment Protocol'.   Opportunities for organizations that need their email+ to be totally in house to migrate in the GroupWise direction.  After all, if they care about that data sovereignty, they probably care about security as well.

Claude, your statement does not really help  . Sometimes you have to use/support applications which you do not want to. Just to keep the speed low into the wrong direction ...

I.e. I am on my way back from a customer. The whole it department was a Novell shop; they still love GroupWise. Nevertheless they are on Exchange, AD, MS file system; for years now. Sometimes fate is 'unfair'. (Fortunately they use SMG, Filr, iPrint, Zenworks)

    @ Andy,
I had a discussion a few days ago. It was something like Microsoft sets technical standards or Microsoft is so and so. I would like to formulate your statement a little more harshly, but I am not allowed to do so here. The only thing I see here in Europe is that everything is running in the direction of Micorosft and Microsoft Cloud according to the motto I have the services out there and if it crashes, nobody can hit me or everyone does it that way. But no one at C-level realizes what data Microsft is extracting and evaluating. As private individuals and companies, we disclose data that is nobody's business because Microsoft is using the excuse that there is a better comfort for IT. For me, data sovereignty comes first. In second place are the crown jewels in every company, the core processes with the associated data. If I hand this over to a third party, the knowledge about core processes, the company DNA and USP leaves the company. What am I worth then? In future, Mircosoft, just like Google and Apple, and other companies in China will do everything they can to rip us off down to the last toe. Everyone can decide for themselves what this means for us as a society.

The “new” Outlock and the new Outlock app no longer recognize Active Sync. I think this is a very worrying step, especially for the OpenSource community

Diethmar, my message was clear and may help after reflection!

But allow me on the ot community to ignore other products and allow me a little bit (black) humour on this actual bad world

i am happy each day when my systems runs correctly and we can help with our long experience, i am sure to take the correct decision in my work life, no i am retired and it's a beautiful live and situation, i have many pleasure to continue with my hobby!

I very much moderated my tone there. Microsoft has already proven ripping of code in GitHub for their AI code generator. What is next?

agree fully Diethmar, we all love to see customers use GW but as we all know very well this over the years is getting less and less. Also a small system with a few users you cant compare to a serious business with Cxx's that want "Outlook" or "go to the cloud" we simply cant ignore other products as this i think is the reason we are where we are in the first place.

The basic answer on the question beside the other discussions going on is you can only access GMS using the Active Sync protocol so any client that supports this can be used with GMS. If you want/need to use an application that does not support Active Sync you can use POP/IMAP using the GWIA.

This is the Best answer, Rob! That is the reason i use imap in my Apple desktop‘s with Mail! Since 15 years all my Desktop are Running with osx, that is a Derivate of linux. In the background i use oes and SLES Servers

Thanks Rob for the statement, we use an OpenSource CRM internally which can handle IMAPS better than Outlook. Due to the really strong set of rules in GroupWise, the mail data flow can be influenced in a targeted manner. The CRM is also used as a support and service desk, OT Service Desk is simply too powerful for our small company. Here too, GroupWise rules help to optimize processes,
