Notify won't launch for my account

Running GroupWise 2014 (14.0.1) on Win 7

Have been running fine with no problems for about 4 or 5 months. I was
deleting old GW accounts in Gwadmin last week and suddenly began getting the
following errors on my workstation:

c05d "Dependent store file does not exist on the disk."
c067 "Database store number is invalid."

I figured something had gone wrong while I was deleting accounts and waited
for the storm of user calls, but they never came.At this time, my Notify was
running and behaving properly, but I continued to get the c067 errors every
few minutes.

I restarted my GroupWise client to make sure there were no problems logging
in. The client came up with no problems, but after a few seconds, I got a
dialog box labeled Notify that said "Failed to connect to GroupWise." I
click OK and everything works, except Notify.

I checked Tools > Options > Security > Notify and saw my name listed in the
Notification list about a dozen times. I ran the GWCheck with the
delsubscriberecords option. All instances of my name are now gone from the
list, but if I try to add my name back to the list, the GroupWise client
crashes and closes.

I am experiencing the same behavior on different workstations with both GW 8
and GW 2014 on Win XP and Win 7 respectively. Any ideas what to try next?

  • Jerry,

I'd try a structural rebuild of your user database.

  • Tried the structural rebuild on my user database. No luck. Still can't add
my name back to the notification list.

  • Jerry,

any errors in the gwcheck log?
You may want to take a look at this TID:

  • No errors in the gwcheck log.

Would that TID still apply even though I am not getting the errors anymore?
They stopped as soon as I restarted my client and I haven't seen them since.
It was as if Notify was still running on my PC, but couldn't connect to the
PO so it was generating errors. Once I shut Notify down, it would not
restart, so I get no errors.

Possibly not, it depends on if you can find the appropriate line in the POA
logs, in which case it would be good to run.
Otherwise I would run through a more general set of GWChecks that you should
be running anyways, and then checking the resulting logs to make all issues
are actually cleared out (i.e. They don't continue to show on subsequent
    GWChecks.)

  • My POA logs only go back 7 days and this happened 12 days ago, so nothing to
    check.

I do have most of the weekly maintenance running already (except for the
disk check and big attachment check). The logs showed nonthing but "error 39
Unrecognized files in mail directories" and "error 66 Files too recent to be
deleted". The error 39 files were .dba copies of my user database and I
assume the msg database containing my messages (msg56.dba) that were created
on 9/10 when I did the structural rebuild on my user database.

I found out today that one other user got the same c05d and c067 errors that
I got at the same time when I was deleteing old user accounts, but he does
not use Notify (says it's distracting).

So this sounds more like it was a transient problem that just confused two
clients, your notify and the other users full client. Does that other user
have any issues since then? Can he start up notify?
Pity the POA logs don't go that far back (backups?) as they most certainly show
some interesting things at that time.

I am assuming On-line mode and not Caching mode from what you've said, but
    please confirm that.

Perhaps a reset of client options may do the trick.
A re-create user database would be the measure of last resort as you would lose
all personalization, including folders, so perhaps opening an SR would be the
    step to do first.

  • Not sure what fixed it, but my "Contents check" did not match the
recommended one in your list, but after that ran this weekend, my Notify is
    working again.

What was the difference between those checks?
Glad it helped, that is why I built that list to both remember and share my
    experiences on different systems.

  • I made a lot of changes in the weekly maintenance, so I'm not 100% sure. I
think it was set up correctly but it was conflicting with another event and
    therefore not running.

It took nine hours to get through for a PO with 75 active mailboxes. Deleted
over 40K blob files among numerous other deletions and corrections, so it
doesn't appear to have run in a while.

All my .log files were named gwcheck.log so I was never quite sure what each
of the reports I was getting was. Now they have names and I know which is
    which.
