GWSave

This free utility exports email messages from one or more folders
in a GroupWise 7 account to standard mime (*.eml) format. Filenames of
exported messages can be customized based on subject, date, sender
and/or recipient. Files created using this utility can then be opened
outside of GroupWise with other email programs (e.g., Outlook Express).
GWSave runs on Windows XP, with the Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1,
against a GroupWise 7 sp1 client/post office. It may run on other
versions, but I haven't tested it. Because of the limitations of
GroupWise API's, some messages containing embedded graphics may not save
correctly (i.e., if a message has more than one embedded image, I can't
guarantee that the images will appear in the correct order).

One additional limitation is on filename length: win32 allows 255
characters, but GroupWise apparently only allows 229 characters, so this
utility has that limitation also. This utility is provided as-is, and
is far from guaranteed to be free from defects. It is only guaranteed
to be...free.

  1. Saved copy of messages with multiple embedded images would display only the first image for all instances of embedded images.

  • Messages forwarded as attachments now save correctly.

  • Settings (folder path, filename format, etc) are now remembered.

  • Slight speed improvement gained, but it is still slow if saving many messages.

Fixed in this version: December 9, 2007

Fixed some reported bugs, including a problem where the file modified date of the exported .eml file didn't match the date of the message.

  • i get this error message when i run this on my workstation running 7.02. any ideas why?

Mifa posted the same error, but i did not see any resolution.
  • I get the followong error in the reults box when I run the program. Not sure what I am doing wrong: Login to GroupWise failed: Specified cast is not valid.
  • The tool successfully exracted all my emails. Each email can open with my new ThunderBird email. But I only see the email SUBJECT when the email is opened. I want to be able to browse and see the subject for each email without having to open each email. Can this be done or should the emails be imported into some area in ThunderBird?
    Please help.

Were you able to resolve this? I'm having the same problem. I can connect to every proxied account except for my own.

  • This could be useful, but there seems to be no way to sort into folders matching the ones in the mailbox or at least put the folder name into the filename. Did I miss something in the config?
  • The utility displays an error when run saying "Failed to proxy account **********: Could not proxy for user."

The account it is trying to proxy is my own account and because it errors it wont display any folder information.

I am running GroupWise 7.0.2 HP.

Would like to try this utility to see if it can bulk save wiht just one click as opposed to clicking save to every message in GW.

    Thanks

Had to reinstall .net 1.1 and now it will launch.
  • Hi. If the subject line contains non-English characters, they will be ignored in the filename. Also if the filename of attachments contain non-English characters, their names will be changed to something else with the file extension removed. The mail contents are also not rendered correctly.

I'm not sure if it's a small bug or I just forgot to do some settings (my XP Regional Settings for non-Unicode programs are not set to English).. I'll be happy to supply sample emails/attachments in unicode characters if needed.
  • I got it solved - didn't realize even if some items are not checked, the ordering checkboxes still need to be specified.

    It's a great indeed!

Hi. When I tried to change the filename format, it prompted "Please check at least one checkbox, and/or change the order of drop-down boxes so that there is a unique number in each box."

I've selected "Numbered" as order 2, "Subject" as order 1, and sepearator using underscore. All other items are unchecked.

  • I updated my client from 7.01 to 7.02 and it started working... Sorry about the confusion. Mike
