GroupWise: Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack 1.1.2 Ships!

Novell has released the latest update for Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack. It is version 1.1.2. It is now available for immediate download....

We have delivered two updates since the Chinnook release in March. Each of these releases has focused specifically on customer reported issues, increased stability, support for upcoming releases of Novell Vibe OnPrem (Evergreen), Novell GroupWise Ascot and the Novell Vibe OnPrem Connector. We also continue to improve the administration, trouble shooting and monitoring aspects of the Mobility Pack.

Highlights

    • New and Improved Storage Layer

    • Security Fixes

    • Send Mail - Honors size limits

    • Test Drive HTML Messages for iOS devices Note: Disabled by default

    • Improved Attachment Retention and Cleanup

    • Improved Duplicate Item Checking

    • Improved Sync Process

    • Reply/Forward Indicator Support

    • Calendar Sync Improvements

FYI: This is build 428.

Here is a link to the readme, and the list of issues that were resolved since March. We are very satisfied with the progress of the Mobility Pack and believe that these updates provide a solid foundation for delivering more enhancements and features. The next major release of the Mobility Pack is code named Delaware. It will be that release that will contain support for HTML email. As previously posted, "next major update of the Mobility Pack is still on schedule and will release in the coming months – I will say during Q3."

There are multiple ways to get the latest update. See this previous blog post for those details.

Please update and let us know how it goes!

    Hi Tom,

Security on your mobile device is very important and we know that there is a lot more we can do in this area. The Mobility Pack did just release version 1.2 on August 5th. See blog from Alex Evans...

However, the security features you are asking about are not available yet. We are looking at MDM solutions and will further improve our security capability in future releases of the product. The next release of Mobility is schedule for early Q4 and includes support for Tasks and IOS5.

Are there any upcoming security features?

I already can do password enforcement but I'm still missing the ability to enforce local device encryption on the endpoint e.g. iPhone/iPad or some Android devices so I will know that my data at rest is still protected by a minimum level of security even when its outside the company building.

I'd also like to be able to nail down synchronisation to "registered" devices, meaning using an other device than the one regitered won't let you synchronise your data even by using the same credentials.

    Thanks in advance

    Tom

    Great question....

This has not been top of mind for us and therefore has not been a priority. We have been prioritizing so many other things ahead of this that we have not come back around to considering expanding our platform support matrix.

This is something we are still looking at, but it is certainly a bit longer term. This is not part of our next set of objectives nor is it part of the next major release of Mobility.

We are interested in additional thoughts and feedback on this! How important is expanding our platform support and what are all of the platforms you think we should consider?

I haven't seen too much information lately on if/when the Mobility solution will be available on the Windows platform. Is there any news on this?

    Just sharing :-)
After security updates we had some Mobile devices not connecting.
This was solved by removing Proxy-settings from Cell phone > Connections > MTN-gprs in South Africa. Strange that some Cell phones settings had "Proxy" and some not - only on Nokia (iPhone and HTC were fine)

    Trust this will help someone...

    Jeff,

Engineering is still looking at this issue. We have taken a couple of fixes, but so far customers are still seeing and reporting it.

We will continue to monitor and I will post back out with additional details as soon as I have them.

I am running 428 with the security patch against GW 8.0.2. This update has introduced an unchangeable attachment limit of 500k and it is driving both me and my users nuts!

The issue is outlined in TID 7008812:
    www.novell.com/.../search.do

The admin UI shows the proper setting (in our case 10MB) as well as 10000 in /opt/novell/datasync/syncengine/connectors/mobility/factory/connector.xml and /opt/novell/datasync/syncengine/connectors/groupwise/factory/connector.xml.

Is this going to be fixed soon or is there a way to roll back?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff Crawford

Mukesh investigated a bit more on this and has updated the TID. It is not a complete/perfect solution yet, but at least you have accurate and up-to-date information on what we have so far.

    Check out this TID:

    Patrick,

You are right....these patches are not available yet through YaST Online Update. It does require us to change a few things in our build process.

We do plan to do this and in the future you should expect patch RPMs.

Thanks for pursuing this...it allowed me to do some follow up.
