where as it fails as well if I'm trying to append the /rss to the home.  need to do it from the actual discussion area

With these links the RSS is successfull again.

Where do you found them? I check the whole page and do not found a hint how to get the RSS. If I remember correctly there were Links to RSS at the community pages before.

it is descripted that a simple /rss at the end of the URL leads to the RSS but ...

what is missing from that link is that not very level has an RSS feed with it.  your first link was with the iPrint area vs what I gave you was the iPrint Discussions.
