iPrint Walk up and Virtual Print Queue Release techniques (Card reader, keypads etc advice?)

So I played with Walkup printing, Virtual Queue's and release tonight for the first time. It's actually really cool. However I'm starting a new thread because I have some questions now:

  1. Besides RFideas 241 devices, does anyone else know of any other card readers that are affordable that work with iprint Walk up virtual Queues for iprint print job release? Do you always have to have an RFIDeas 241 device AND the card reader?

  2. Once you turn on Card reader release for a directory server and virtual walkup print Queue's, on the iprint appliance, can you still print normally outside of Virtual print Queue's? and have jobs go directly to the printers for non Walkup virtual print Queue's?

  3. Does anyone know of any fancy Raspberry pie projects that talk to iprint walk up virtual Queue's, and a card reader for Virtual Queue release with iprint? (That would be rad)

  4. Does anyone know of any cheat combinations of the above, raspberry pie and or commercial that allow for Keypad code release of a job in a virtual Queue?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Everything I have read over the last year or so has been only works with those. I imagine that it may have to do with 3rd party providers like papercut.

    1. You only need badge reader if you want to release the job with a badge.  AFAIK, I do not know other device manufacturer that does the job. I've been trying several time to get this kind of information from MF, with no luck.

    2. Yes, you can ! I mean your WalkUp printer is a virtual and different device than the physical one, both device can coexist on (client) computer. And event direct printing to the printer remains possible (e.g. LPR job from a mainframe)

    3. I am Curious about such project, That would be cool

    4. sorry, no

FYI,  RFIDeas 241 has 2 network ports, (one for network and the other for the printer) that device behave like a hub (not a switch). Drawback : limited to 100Mbs.
But you do not have to stick to that setup. You can only network port only, and leave your printer on its own network port, but then you have to modify the connection string of your RFIDEAS device. This setup let's you (also) work with WIFI printers.

Can you explain more about how the Card reader can be used without the 241? The reason I ask os that it only seems to have a USB connection.  Maybe you're talking about a version thhat has a POE network connection instead tht is stand alone?  Do you recomend any affordable RFideas card reders for card release that do this?
