iPrint printer fails to install W10 EDU

I have two Lenovo E15 Gen 2 Windows 10 EDU (21H2 19044) laptops that will not install a printer from the IPP printer listing page.  My iPrint Appliance is currently running version 4.2.8. My iPrint client is currently v06.22.16.  I can manually install the printers using Windows or their own software.  I have provided a screen photo of the error message "Printer Name is Invalid" below.  What frustrates me is that I can take other Lenovo laptops and successfully install the same printers following the same steps.  To troubleshoot the issue, I completed the following steps:

  1. Flushed DNS
  2. Reset TCP/IP Stack
  3. Cleared cache
  4. Pinged the iPrint Appliance and printer to be installed
  5. 4. Rebooted the laptops
  6. 5. Issued Printcmd /s /T2 to see if the printer drivers and software were already installed
  7. 6. Uninstalled iPrint
  8. 7. Rebooted the laptop

Sadly, I am still unable to find any reason for the printers to not install.  I even followed a previous post about Windows 10 KB5015814 but that update is not installed on these laptops since they were set up using a new image just like the other laptops that have no issues.  Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

    1. Update to 6.23.20
    2. Disable the local firewall
    3. Look in the c:/ndps directory to check what error is on the logs. I've seen this issue when the local firewall rules were not properly configured.

Thank you for helping out on this post as well. I will look to update and review my firewall settings. I do have one additional question. Am I correct in thinking that 6.23.20 should be made available through the Appliance after the server updates? When I review updates, no new updates are available for the server and the client available to download is 6.22. Is there anything else I need to check?

    the update to 6.23.20 is not related to your issue but it is good  to know that it has been released and it contains the new iPrint console to upload drivers and manage driver profiles without using IE. It is available on your SLD portal, microfocus marketplace and with oes2023;

    https://marketplace.microfocus.com/appdelivery/content/iprint-client-for-windows

it will be released as well in the next oes and appliance patches.

I am pasting in the ipperr.txt file. What has me confused in reviewing the file is the consistent mention of g:\jenkins\.... I do not have any mapped drives by that name. I checked with another friend of mine, in a different school district, that uses iPrint as well and he sees the same error messages in that file on his machine.

    Some comments:

    1. The g:\jenkins\..entries are due to the iprint client code compilation on developer machine, not on your machine. They can be ignored, the same as the RegOpenKeyEx ones.

    2. Check in services that Micro focus iPrint Services is up and running

    3. Disable the local firewall

If still same error, enable IPP trace (https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7007023),  and take one simultaneously with a lan trace while installing the printer so you'll be able to see the communication.

Thank you for the KB link. Instead of posting the entire txt file, I have uploaded it and created a shared URL. Here is the trace log drive.google.com/.../view

a firewall or proxy stopping the connection from this machine to apache port 631 using ipp.

I am going to try and uninstall iPrint, confirm it is completely uninstalled, and reboot so I know both items are gone. Then I will reinstall iPrint and attempt the printer install. What I am not finding is why this one device is possibly seeing a conflict with Bitdefender and iPrint when I have over 150 windows devices set up the same way and do not have this issue. I guess there is always going to be one odd device that keeps us employed.   I will post an update once that user is gone for lunch.

did you stopped the firewall? you can also install wireshark and take a lan trace while duplicating the issue. Lan trace will show the communication, if any, with apache.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been allowing a few days of use to see what happens. To this point, things have worked but an additional step I had to take was to make sure there was no trace of iPrint in the registry.
