Perform Accounting Using iPrint and Equitrac

This document explains how to configure Equitrac accounting solution on Open Enterprise Server or iPrint Appliance for iPrint printers.

iPrint Printers: The print jobs are sent to the iPrint print server and then to physical printer.

Note: Equitrac does not support accounting for iPrint Direct Printers.

iPrint Printer Accounting



To perform iPrint Printer accounting, perform the following:

Prerequisites:
Configure SQL server.

1. Install and Configure Equitrac Office/Express Accounting on the Windows Server:



The Equitrac Office/Express installation wizard enables you to select the server components to be installed on each machine. For local installation, install all components on the same machine and run the wizard only once.

To run wizard follow the below steps:


    1. Close all the applications on the server.

 

    1. Launch the Equitrac Express installation wizard.

 

    1. On the Welcome screen, click Next to begin the installation process.

    1. Accept the License agreement and click Next.

    1. Select the language for installing the features.

    1. Select the options to install on this machine, then click Next. By default, all Server Components and Administrative Applications are selected. Continue with the default selection for local installation.

    1. Specify the credentials, then click Test Credentials. On verification click Next.

    1. Select the firewall setup method, then click Next.

    1. Select the database type, then click Next.
      If Oracle is selected, the Oracle client is automatically located by the wizard and wizard advances to the Database credentials screen without any prompts.

    1. (Optional) If SQL server is selected, type the instance name of the database on the current machine.

    1. Specify the User name and Password if it is different from the local Windows authentication, click Test Connection .On verification click Next

    1. Select “Provide account for Equitrac Express Web Client Application Pool”, then click Test Credentials. On verification click Next.

    1. (Optional) Select “single sign-on” and click Next.

    1. Click Install.

2. Installation and Configuration of Equitrac Office/Express Component on Open Enterprise Server or iPrint Appliance:





    • Copy the installation package, Equitracoffice.rpm or Equitracexpress.rpm to a temporary folder on the Open Enterprise Server or iPrint Appliance server, such as the /tmp directory.

 

    • Install the package using the Linux package installer:

      rpm –ivh /tmp/Equitracoffice.rpm

      rpm –ivh /tmp/Equitracexpress.rpm

    • Run /usr/local/eq/setup and provide the required information for the accounting server.

Note: Accounting server is Equitrac Office/Express configured on Windows Server as mentioned in Step 1.

Ensure that the accounting server is accessible via the DNS name or IP address you specify.

To modify this name at a later time, run the eqcascfg command.

NOTE: The server’s root user must own eqacctg with the s privilege in order to enable access to the DRE spool files.

Running the Setup Script:
This script points to the /usr/local/eq directory and automatically calls the eqcascfg script in interactive mode, and restarts the eqctrl daemon. Run this script to configure the Equitrac Office/ Express server and start the eqdred daemon.

3. Identifying the Core Accounting Server:



To configure DRE, specify the name of the server hosting the Equitrac Office/Express Core Accounting Server (CAS), using the eqcascfg script.

For example:

/usr/local/eq/eqcascfg –e your.server.com

Specify the name of the Equitrac Office/Express server as a fully-qualified name or an IP address.

Controlling the Equitrac Office/Express Daemon:

To start the Equitrac Office/Express daemon on the Open Enterprise Server or iPrint Appliance:
/usr/local/eq/eqctrl start

To stop the Equitrac Office/Express daemon:
/usr/local/eq/eqctrl stop
To restart the Equitrac Office/Express daemon
/usr/local/eq/eqctrl restart

To see the status of the Equitrac Office/Express daemon:
/usr/local/eq/eqctrl status

To automate the startup/shutdown process of the daemon, a copy of the eqctrl script is installed into the appropriate location.


4. Enabling Accounting for a Printer Agent on Open Enterprise Server or iPrint Appliance:



Each Printer Agent for which you want print control and tracking must be configured to use the ‘eqacctg’ module.


    1. Login to the Open Enterprise Server or iPrint Appliance iManager using web browser. https://IP ADDRESS OR DNS NAME/nps.

 

    1. Browse to iPrint tasks.

 

    1. On the Printer Control tab, click the Printer Health Monitor link.

 

    1. On the new page that is displayed, click the Configuration options link.

 

    1. In the Accounting Autoload Command edit field, enter eqacctg, and press the Apply button.

 

    1. Restart the Printer Agent.

 

    1. Repeat steps starting at Step 3 for each additional Printer Agent to be configured.




On successful configuration iPrint jobs for iPrint printers will get accounted.

Viewing the Equitrac Enabled iPrint Printers in Core Accounting Server:


    1. Launch the equitrac system manager and connect to the server.

 

    1. Click devices on the left pane.

A physical device, port, and print queue will be created in the System Manager in the same manner as any other DRE device.



Viewing Print Job Accounting Status in Core Accounting Server:


    1. Launch the Equitrac report manager and connect to the server.

 

    1. Click on Account statement and select required report criteria and click ok to view all the print job accounting status as displayed in the below image.
