You don't use the tar.gz to upgrade 24.2 -> 24.3 the files in there are merely for reference.

To upgrade log on to the server via ssh and run yast from the cli, a normal patch install from there will have listed the latest OES version and do the upgrade for you (along with any other minor updates you haven't already installed).

Why use yast. if you are in the cli just run zipper up. Watch for it to finish and type reboot and done.

The problem with understanding the documentation is that "update" and "upgrade" are wildly mixed:

As far as I understand, this is an update not an upgrade.

In addition to that I do not see the update with zypper. We are using SMT - if I understand correctly there is no action needed, 24.3 should just appear in the 23.4 repos - is that correct?

Yes, this is an update between OES 24.2 and OES 24.3. To clarify,

- it is update between OES 23.4 (LTS) -> OES24.1 (IR) -> OES 24.2 (IR) -> OES 24.3 (IR)

- it is upgrade between OES 23.4 (LTS) -> OES 24.4 (LTS)

- it is upgrade between OES 24.3 (IR) -> OES 24.4 (LTS)

LTS: long term support release

IR: Innovation release

And yes, if you are registered to NCC or SMT, 'zypper lp' command should show all updates without any additional action.

Use 'zypper patch' command to update.
