Open Enterprise Server License

Hi,

Silly question... It's been so long since I've done anything with an OES server on Suse Linux that I honestly don't know the answer to this question.

If your OES license should expire, what affect does it have on the server operation?

Will things still operate as normal, or will things stop working?

We are migrating away from OES to Sharepoint, and although our migration is almost complete, they are not sure it will be done before the license expires.

Thanks for any input

OES is now an integrated install. You only use the OES install media; you don't do an initial install of SLES.

When you install OES you provide a product key which gives you access to the OES repositories.

When you acquired OES you purchased licenses for number number of users. Those licenses don't expire.

To continue receiving product updates you purchase annual maintenance. When your maintenance expires you will no longer get updates until you renew your maintenance but OES doesn't stop running. Unless you maintain active maintenance you will lose entitlement to some of the additional products included with OES which you may be using.

Would this be true for Open Enterprise Server 2015 SP1 as well?

Yes,  in fact that version wise, you are far enough out of support that you likely won't have any patches anyway.  But it would still be useful to check for patches while still under maintenance.

Active maintenance only entitles you to updates on currently supported software. For an additional fee you can continue to receive updates for up to two years after active support on a product has ended.

Open Enterprise Server 2015 SP1 is well past End of Life. Even if you are still renewing your maintenance, you will not be entitled to any support on this product.
