Someone is using email encryption in GroupWise and Retain ?

I found by a chance, that if you are using email encryption in GroupWise and try to open some encrypted email message in Retain you have problem. Because GroupWise is using only user based encryption and server based encryption is not possible, than archiving of such messages is not supported. Asked support if this will change in future and got answer, that there are no plans to change this.

This is only FYI, because this is logical and only because is not specified in documentation man can have impression, that it can magically work.

What encryption are we talking about as there are several ways it can be and is applied. encryption is a generic tech term, not a specific implimentation

What makes you think there is no server side encryption?  has been since at least GW 4.0 both at rest on the server, in transit, and on any GW Remote/Caching mode.    The in-transit between agents can be migrated to TLS,  but that is a fairly new thing

The native GW server side encryption Retain handles just fine without any issues,  but if you throw in some other layers on top,  then we need to get into specifics.

So what|which encryption system are we talking about?

We use for years solutions in front of smtp servers (gwise giwa)

like Z1 secure email gateway (we are located in germany)

Nobody of our customers like it, that certificates are on the user workstation and users does not know how encryption works.

Management of all certificates can be done central (and more)

The other thing are viruses, after decrypt the mail should be scanned
