Fresh install , could not communicate with the engine

Hello,

Just did a fresh install on a 2008 R2 server of the engine, but we are unable to set it up. After installing nsmadmin and running it all I get is 'Could not communicate with the engine'
netstat show that the engine is running nicely on port 3009, we can connect to it wih telnet, but not with the nsmadmin.

any ideas how to fix this?
