Can ZAM manage machines that move in & out of an Enterprise?

Hi People,

First time in a Zenworks Forum. Now I am recommending ZAM to a bank that has outsourced its IT box maintenance to a 3rd party. They are comfortable with everything else ZAM does BUT they need to be sure it can Especially manage machines that move out and those that come back from the Repair Center. I needed to reconfirm before I close the deal. Is this possible? Any Corporate example of this in the success stories would definitely help my case.

Thanks in advance

Workstations leaving the bank should be removed from inventory or moved to a stockroom if they use that feature of ZAM 7.x.

When the equipment returns to the production environment, the ZAM collection client should reconcile the rescanned equipment to the old inventory records based on serial number and LAN address. If neither of those two items are the same after a repair job, the workstation will not automatically reconcile. You would have to "recover" the profile of the old computer and apply the extracted registry key to the repaired computer to keep the workstation history continuity.

Computers that do not report their serial numbers correctly to ZAM will have problems with this reconciliation functionality. Most Dell, IBM/Lenovo and HP/Compaqs will have no problems with this. Clones that use Intel motherboards are also usually ok. Ensure SMBIOS 2.3.2 or higher compliance to make sure the computers will be up to snuff.

Thanks for this info. It is very helpful. The client has no previous version of Zenworks at all. That gives me an opportunity as they did not even know of Zenworks or that there was/is a way that they can manage their assets in this way.

I am wondering if ZAM has a preference for a particular RF system that I could recommend to them.

    Any help on this?
