ZAM 7.5 IR 19

I have Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.2 installed and I just did a Scan Now on
my computer. When I go into the ZAM Console and run a Software report
by Manufacturer, it does not show Adobe Reader 9.2. It does show
versions of Unknown.

When and how is this new information populated? Can this be controlled
from the ZAM server?

Thank you

    Frank,

Your IR (Interim Release) does not drive this. It is driven from the knowledge base in the monthly PRU. If have the current monthly PRU installed and still show "Unknown" as version then it means that Novell needs to update the fingerprint within the PRU. PRU's typically release 1st week in the new month for updates in previous month.

You can speed up / improve that process through use of the SWID Wizard. Search for it on the downloads. Using that utility the results of your probe of the install will be sent to Novell for inclusion in the next PRU release and unknown will then be resolved.

    Thanks,

You can go here http://ftp2.novell.com/partners/tally/pru/TCAllPrd.txt to see all that is identified. As of this published date I don't see Reader 9.2 so you would have to wait till next release provided they publish it then or take the route of using the SWID to probe and report the instance.

Awesome Bryant! Thanks for your help.
Is there someplace that I can go to check on what is published?

    Hi Bryant
Oh brother! Please disregard my last comment about where to go to check
    on it myself.
I can't wait for this cold to go away.

    Cheers

No Problem, I figured I'd give it a day or so and it you didn't see it in my last post I would come around again.

    Hi Bryant
Now, is there any place to go to see detailed information about each of
those items? For example, my Reports for Software Applications | By
Manufacturer shows that I have Adobe Acrobat 4 installed on 6
workstations. I beg to differ on that. So I'd like to see where it
    thinks that product is at.
If I were to drill down to a PC and look at the software installed I see
    Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0(C:\Program Files\...\Help)
But I don't know where \...\ is at. Is is looking for an .exe or a help
    file???

    Thank you
    Frank

If you are seeing the Program Files\...\somefile at the workstation detail level, did you try clicking on the name of the program at that level. It should return number of instances that is installed along with complete file path.

The alternative is to go to your Asset Mgmt tab, click on Software Usage (going off memory here so you might have to poke around a bit), then create a custom report for software usage. It will provide you with fields like "path" that will divulge the entire path for you to investigate. Sorry it's a bit vauge but I am not near a console to describe a better or more accurate steps.

ZAM's software product recognition is based on software files being present on the device and it would appear in some cases a combination of registry keys and software files (primarily for suites I believe). It could be looking for an executable or files of any other extension that are unique to that product.

You can use the ZAM manager to find the exact details of the installation path. Do a software component details query for the workstation(s) in question.

    Hi Bryant
Yes thank you. Clicking on the name of the program does return the
number of instances and then it will display the whole path.
I've now also learned how to create reports and display the path where
that executable is located. Pretty slick! Also I'm now collecting any
..exe filename on the workstations so I can see what else might be
installed out there and adding my own Software Products to report on.

Unfortunately we do not have the licensed version of ZAM, so I can't use
    the Software Usage tab.

Thanks again for your help and input.
