Objective

This document provides information on how to configure and achieve Geolocation capabilities within ZENworks Mobile Workspace.

Introduction

Nowadays, employees are increasingly accessing their corporate resources from mobile devices using various applications. However, these portable devices are susceptible to loss and theft. Therefore, securing corporate data on these devices is a priority for organizations. The Geolocation capabilities within ZENworks Mobile Workspace can help administrators to keep track of their devices. Using ZENworks Mobile Workspace, administrators can create advanced security policies on devices by applying contextual rules based on the Geolocation capabilities. The Geolocation capabilities in ZENworks Mobile Workspace can be achieved based on:

  • IP
  • Device

IP-based Geolocation

Geolocation is important to increase device security. In this scenario, the geolocation of a device is achieved by detecting the IP address of the device. The IP is then compared with a list of IP ranges and the respective countries with which they are associated.

Configuring Geolocation within ZENworks Mobile Workspace

  • Click the Choose File button and select the downloaded IpToCountry.csv file.
  • Click Upload. The file is uploaded and it will be used as a reference by ZMW to identify the geolocation of the device based on the IP.

Obtaining the Geolocation of a Device Using ZENworks Mobile Workspace

  1. Log into the security server web console as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to GENERAL > Browser and click the name of the user whose device geolocation you want to track. The device information is displayed in the Application section of the screen.

Device-based Geolocation

If users are using company-owned devices, then it is important for administrators to keep track of the devices. Device-based geolocation capabilities use the location of the device and send the GPS coordinates to the server. Thereby enabling the admin to keep track of the device. This capability is very important when devices are lost or stolen.

Enabling Geolocation within ZENworks Mobile Workspace

  • Log into the security server web console as an administrator.
  • Navigate to GENERAL > Security Settings.
  • Edit the security settings by clicking the pencil icon.
  • In the Authentication and session settings, enable the Require location setting by selecting the checkbox next to it.

  • Click the Update button. The Location feature is enabled for the devices.

    Note: After this setting is enabled, users need to enable GPS on their devices to log into the ZENworks Mobile Workspace app.

Obtaining the Device Location within ZENworks Mobile Workspace

  • Log into the security server web console as an administrator.
  • Navigate to GENERAL > Browser and click on the user whose device location you want to identify.
  • In the Application section click the “?” icon. The Device information page is displayed.

  • Click Show on Google Maps. The location is displayed within Google maps.
