The purpose of this document is to provide detailed steps for installation and configuration of eDirectory 8.8 SP6 on a Windows 2008 R2 machine using ZENworks Bundles. This would be a requirement when multiple eDirectory setups need to be created in a short time.
To achieve this we can install eDirectory 8.8 SP6 in silent mode using ZENworks. The following sections describe step by step procedures.
Following are the pre-requisites that need to be carried out on Windows 2008 R2 server and eDirectory.
Note: Please refer to the section "Unattended Install and Configure to eDirectory 8.8 SP6 on Windows" in the eDirectory documentation for more details. Installing or Upgrading Novell eDirectory on Windows
The detailed steps to create a bundle in ZENworks along with the steps/batch file details on how to install and configure eDirectory in Silent mode.
Steps to create a bundle in ZENworks ZCC console:
Note: All the scripts/batch files written will address this path. You need to make appropriate changes to the scripts/batch files if the location you have provided is different from above.
Click on "Add>>Copy Directory" and provide the source location where the eDir installation exe and batch file are available. The destination location in our case it would be "c:\temp"
Note: (Optional) either select "Run as dynamic administrator" option under "Advanced>>Executable security level" or "Run as secure system user (Don't allow system to interact with desktop)" as per your requirement.
Source location files and details:
Click on "Add>>Launch Executable". Provide name "extract-edir886" and provide the following:
Command: c:\temp\eDirectory_88SP6_Windows_x64.exe
Command line parameters: /auto c:\temp
Goto "Advanced" tab and select the option "When action is complete" and Click "ok".
Again click on "Add>>Launch Executable". Provide name "run-redist" and provide the following:
Command: C:\temp\Install_automation\redist_package
Goto "Advanced" tab and select the option "When action is complete" and Click "ok".
Again click on "Add>>Launch Executable". Provide name "run-niciinstall_64" and provide the following:
Command: C:\temp\Install_automation\niciinstall_64
Goto "Advanced" tab and select the option "When action is complete" and Click "ok".
Again click on "Add>>Launch Executable". Provide name "run-eDirInstall_64" and provide the following:
Command: C:\temp\Install_automation\eDirInstall_64
Goto "Advanced" tab and select the option "When action is complete" and Click "ok".
Note: Create the above Actions in sequence as mentioned above for the operation to go smoothly.
Accessing and using the eDirectory tools on Windows 2008 R2 machine:
You can now manage your newly installed eDirectory using the web based management program iManager. Also, you can have a graphical view of all eDirectory tools on Windows platform by going to the "Start Menu>>Settings>>Control Panel>>Novell eDirectory Services". For more details on how to use the tools, please refer to the following cool solution: AppNote: eDirectory Administration on Windows
Problem: After installing eDirectory using the above steps found that the SSL objects were not created.
Solution: This can be solved with following workarounds/solutions.
Create default server certificates manually using the PKI imanager plugin, i.e., from iManager goto:
Roles&Tasks>>Novell Certificate Server>>Create Default Certificates
Enable server self provisioning, to get the certificates automatically created. To enable it, in iManager goto:
Roles&Tasks>>Novell Certificate Server>>Configure Certificate Authority>>Enable server self-provisioning and check the checkbox for Health Check - Force default certificate creation/update on CA change.
However, for more details on creating the objects manually, please refer to the below links:
