Introducing the New ZENworks Inventory Collector!

As a Cool Solutions reader and ZENworks customer, you may recall that a couple of months back, the ZENworks Inventory/Asset Management Team had started to revamp the existing Windows Inventory Collector (both hardware and software) to a more current software technology and flexible architecture. This significant change was necessary as we start to support the latest hardware and software in today's market, newer detection technologies, and also designed a flexible architecture to ensure that we can easily support future devices, software, or technologies.

This updated and revamped Inventory Collector, a.k.a, ZENcollector will now be able to detect and report better hardware details on a physical device; accurate reporting of software installed on a Windows environment, and it can also collect Web usage data from all popular Web Browsers; be it Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Edge. It is available in all modes of operation; Managed, Inventory Only, or Portable Collector. There are plenty of optimizations to the way Inventory scan runs, including memory and CPU optimizations; no more system freezes!

We have come a long way on this and it’s now ready for prime time!  Yes, it's going to be part of the ZENworks 2017 release which is scheduled to be released later this year.

As part of the ZENworks 2017 Beta program, we have been running an Inventory Collection Quest with Beta customers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the customers who have participated in this and sent us the inventory files for our analysis. The ZENworks Inventory Team has analyzed all of them and we have made changes to ZENcollector as a result of the experiences.

We are running a second Inventory Collection Quest till the end of August 2016. If you would like to contribute in improving the new ZENcollector, please send in your contact information to us at zen at microfocus dot com and we will get back to you with details on how to run the Inventory Collection Quest.
